I'm in the military and live with the some of the younger guys at my unit in government housing. They are the laziest POS you can imagine. After work and on days off they will lay in their bed naked and play video games alone until it's time to work again and do nothing else. Maybe order Dominos if they're feeling brave. The will barely talk to each other outside of work either. We all get along great and joke around during work, but after work they just do absolutely nothing and close themselves in their rooms. We live in a place with amazing nature around and they have never gone to see any of it. Tourists pay thousands of dollars to come on cruises here and they won't even drive 10 minutes on a weekend to go to the beach. The problem is I'm only living here for a couple months so I didn't bother shipping my car out. How do I meet people outside of work if I don't have a car? Should I try to join college clubs even though I'm not in college? And are all military guys losers like this? It's going to be a shitty 4 years if they are.[/quot
I retired 6 years ago from the Army after 22 years of service. There are very few soldiers that have any desire to do anything but be lazy and do the same crap they did as a civilian. The Army is a direct reflection of society. The good news is that you can suck it up for 16 extra years and actually retire. I'm sitting in a beautiful home in the mountains of Mexico typing this. Now, figure a way to get out and enjoy yourself, but don't spend all of your money. Be frugal, as it appears you have been. Go find hot chicks to run with.
