Discussing serious geo-political security issues on LRC is equivalent to discussing diet control with Rosie O'Donnell.
Also, most LRC posters under 40 are product of a lefty liberal commie pinko educational system that hates America and believes there is moral equivalency with socialist liberty hating regimes such as China.
MAGA
The POTUS and the rest of the US gov't should just keep their mouth shut and drop hundreds of thousands of Korean language copies of international newspapers on the NK and let the people there see reality.
Like stomping on an anthill. Lots of news is good news!
Most of you are idiots. The reason is that once NK has nukes and missiles they have massive bargaining chips that put them one step closer to controlling the entire Korean Peninsula (KJU's long term goal). They will be able to blackmail the US into slowly pulling military out of SK. They will be able to sell nukes to terrorists or rogue states for massive funding. If these actors set off bombs in the US or Europe, nobody can definitively trace it to NK. And even if they did, we will be where we are now: on the brink of WW3.
It's a master plan that no one knows the best answer to. China, NK, Russia, and terrorists want to slowly whittle the US down. Have us fight each other internally over pointless issues, have a moron president like Trump, overextend our military, have our greedy capitalists export technology to China, etc. They are all playing the long game to take away the US's piece of the pie.
NK needs to be stopped by 100% sanctions.
The only countries left in 2017 without a Central Bank owned or controlled by the Rothschild Family are:
Cuba
North Korea
Iran
Syria
We don't want any other countries to have nukes because that reduces our power on many levels. Is it hypocritical? Of course. But that's the nature of war. We don't break for tea in battle anymore.
We specifically don't want NK to have nukes because we fear they might sell them to groups that would actually use them. No country, including NK will be the first to launch a nuke. Terrorist groups don't care though. That's the real threat.
Well, history has proven that the United States is the only real threat in the equation.

Out authority comes from power and might.
Read the constitution. Treaties count as law in the US. The authority is the complete reverse of what you think. US hegemony is generally all illegal.
The question whether the USA could be a nuclear monopoly was resolved when the USSR caught up, but not before people like you nearly destroyed the world trying to prevent parity. And for really nothing more than to stroke your own egos.
The same is going on now with Israel trying to prevent Iran's imaginary nuclear weapons ambitions, and yes, with most nuclear-armed nations trying to stop another one from getting nukes. It's too late - they have them, they're not going to give them up.
Why would they? Read you own comment. Why would they give up their only protection against you? Why should they?
Read the constitution. Treaties count as law in the US. The authority is the complete reverse of what you think.
US constitution mentions treaties various times: Article 1 Section 10, States cannot enter; Article 2 Section 2, President can make (with concurrence of Senate); Article 3 Section 2, enumerating "treaties" as coming AFTER laws of USA, as pertaining to which cases are applicable to judicial authority; and again Article 6, lists it AFTER laws of USA.
The judicial power shall extend to all cases, in law and equity, arising under this Constitution, the laws of the United States, and treaties made, or which shall be made, under their authority
This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land...
So laws of USA take precedent over all treaties made or which shall be made.
Anyway, US people can always change their own USA constitution. They control the destiny of authority.

Sounds dangerous and short-sighted to me.
Why is North Korea is deciding to pursue dialogue now?
1)There is significant evidence that North Korea is struggling under the weight of USA president’s maximum pressure strategy. There are also reportedly serious concerns about the “military option.” As Kim Jong Un likely aspires to survive the Trump presidency, these factors may be affecting his decision making.
2) At the same time, Kim has repeatedly heralded North Korea’s emergence as a nuclear power, so indeed on alternate theory Kim is approaching this landmark meeting from a position of confidence.

Why do we care about North Korea testing bombs? We (USA) did the same and continue to test and continue to have the largest stockpile and arsenal of nuclear weapons on the planet. Why do we think we can tell other countries what they should/should not be doing? We are the only country to ever use a nuclear bomb, why weren't they taken away from us?
I really don't get this and am going on my run now.
Because we make the rules. Are you a retard? Do you ask why adults can drive a car but won’t let children drive?
The US gov't leverages its power to protect its interests. Morality has nothing to do with it. The NK regime is essentially doing the same. The primary difference is that the interests of the gov't and the interests of the people overlap to a greater extent in the US than in NK.
We care about North Korea because we are nice. We know North Korea cares about us, and we know North Korea doesn't have any friends or anyone to talk to, so we are being nice and caring about North Korea. We might even ask North Korea to go to the prom -- but just as friends.
USA cares about DPRK, because Russia/China care.
North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un wants to sign a peace treaty and establish diplomatic relations with the US, including allowing an embassy in Pyongyang, according to the Seoul-based Dong-A Ilbo newspaper, which cited an unidentified senior official with South Korea’s presidential office.
Mr Kim is likely to raise the possibility of a peace treaty as well as denuclearizing his country during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, the newspaper said, citing an official in the office of South Korean leader Moon Jae-in. […]
In a separate summit between Mr Kim and Mr Moon scheduled for next month, the North Korean leader is also expected to raise resuming cultural exchanges and reuniting separated families.
