why is withrow shown unattached?
I think because he's redshirted along with the other two WI frosh in the race that also show that they're unattached....
Yes...you are correct they are redshirting hence the unattached. They will be true frosh next year in all 3, Cross, Indoor, Outdoor.
they will actually be considered red-shirt freshman. technically sophomores.
Is Withrow redshirting? Just curious about him being unattached.
Quite a program you have there in Madison...

Once again Jerry Schummachers team is lighting the track up. After a 903 by Bobby Lockhart in his 2nd steeple Ben Gregory runs 343 followed up by a 5k which saw Tegencamp go 1331 Withrow 1336 Solinsky 1338 and Eagon 1353. Best Coach, Program, and distance runners in the nation PERIOD. Can't wait to see what Bairu runs in the 10k.
Yes they have the best distance runners in the nation. Does that mean Schumacher is the best coach in the land? No it does not. One could just as well argue that their inability to win cross last fall is a huge failure by his part.
How did that team not win?
There decision to redshirt Withrow cleary cost them (and that's the coach's decision) but then again if they'd just run well they would have won without him (and to me coaching is all about peaking when it counts).
The 'best coach in the nation' tag is a ridiculous one to begin with. Wetmore clearly deserved that tag in the fall. 100%. Does schumacher deserve it now? Perhaps. But then again maybe he's just a great recruiter.
A monkey could have a great team with Tegencamp, Withrow, Solinsky. Those are 3 of the greatest highschool runners to come out in a long damn while.
And I agree with the guy above a 903 steeple by Lockhart is terrible. Terrible.
So there you have it. The devil's advocate argument.
Schumacher clearly is a great coach but for some dude probably affiliated with the program to come on her and spot off that one meet proves it is ridiculous.
Cause if you're going to use one meet, remember xs 2004.
CU looked awful at Cardinal!

you really think 903 is good for your second steeple? i ran 907 in my second steeple and couldnt break 1430 for 5k. ive met 900 guys who were 1445 guys as well. you would think lockhart would at least run under 8:50 with slightly horrible form.
Agreed. I ran 8:52 in my first steeplechase as a freshman in a meaningless dual meet, and I didn't have a 10th of the talent that Lockhart has.

Anyone know, how Ed Moran got 6th year?? he graduated HS in 1999.
Would he be related to the Ed Moran of the late 1950s?
last i checked they gave out the national championship for winning a race, not being in shape. If they are so much better than the rest of the ncaa, why dont they have the ncaa championship?
Wetmore sucks.
As far as an overall distance program goes, I think Texas has been on the same level as Wisconsin. They aren't quite as strong at 10,000 meters, but they can compete with anyone at 5k and under. Go back to the results from the Oregon meet and compare how they stack up. Don't forget that 3 of the 4 legs on their 4th place 4 x mile at Penn were true freshmen. They will get even better over the next few years to come.

ronnie moore, is that you? or some other idiot from texas? c'mon texas will NEVER be a top 10 distance program...most distance runners are just too smart to go there.
also, to be a true distance program, you need a strong xc team. right?
Ronnie Moore is an idiot...and so are you if think UT can not be a top 10 distance program. You must be out of the loop. They were 12th at NCAAs this year and have a great class of freshmen this year. Obviously about 5 of the nation's best recruits weren't too good to begin there this year. Please name me 10 other programs that have put up better track results this year with their men's distance programs. How about 5?
5 was easy: Wisconsin, Arkansas, Michigan, Stanford, Indiana
10 not as easy: Colorado, Oregon, UCLA, Cornell, BYU, Notre Dame, Arizona???
I'd put Texas somewhere in that group of seven schools.
cal poly?

I believe that you must be the one "smokin somedin strong" as your reading skills are terrible. I was responding to the question in the post immediately before mine that asked:
"Please name me 10 other programs that have put up better track results this year with their men's distance programs. How about 5?"
Unless, that is, you don't count Indiana as having a strong distance program this track season so far...
