I hear it's pretty rough out there in Houston...a lot of "5-finger" discounts going on. Lol
When there were floods in Pennsylvania, they were trucking them out by the truckload !!!

[quote]An estimated 500,000 Texan vehicles could be totaled and scrapped in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, snowballing into a massive sales wave of new and used cars in the coming months.
So this will ultimately stimulate the economy, with tons of new cars being purchased through insurance money.
I'm curious what the effect of all those trashed/totaled cars is for the scrap yards/used parts industry. I feel like it has to "flood" their market with tons of parts. Doors/wheels/tires/windows/suspension/etc aren't affected by water all that much.
BS. I was standing in waist deep water unloading evacuees from boats of the Cajun (and Texas) Navy. Evacuees were all shapes, sizes, and colors, including about 150 from a local Senior Center with walkers, wheelchairs, O2 bottles, etc. The folks in the water were also different shapes, sizes and colors, standing right beside me was a big guy covered in tats including neck and face - not sure of his background but perhaps it can be guessed. But who cares, he was cool and lifted quite a few wheelchairs with me, a skinny white runner-type. Neither of us were there to be on TV.
There is hope.
Also... ya wanna buy a car? I'll give you a good deal.

The images you're seeing from Texas is what the mainstream media wants you to see. It's been sugar coated with feel good stories that makes people feel all comfy.

Doesn't matter, they can sell it out of state and there's no history. Poof. You're screwed new user.
+1. Shipping cars is trivial. There should be some history but some stuff is pretty easy to scrub. Avoiding any car that was sold or had residence in TX is a start but that isn't going to be remotely possible or enclusive enough.
DETROIT (AP) — Auto industry experts estimate that 500,000 to 1 million cars, trucks and SUVs were damaged by floodwaters from Harvey.
Most will have so much water damage that they can’t be fixed, and insurance companies will declare them total losses.
Yet the damaged cars could be retitled and sold to unsuspecting buyers nationwide. But experts warn against buying the cars because damage could be hidden for years before causing problems.
If you own a flooded car, experts say it shouldn’t be started.
Instead, have it towed to a mechanic. But if floodwaters got higher than the bottom of the body, it’s possible the car can’t be fixed.
Wait a minute here.
Why can't you buy one of those $40,000 rides, say for about $400.00 cold cash. Then pay a few grand to fix it and clean it up from one of those cheap local mechanic dudes....and you've jow got yourself a nice ride for just a few grand out of pocket. 🤔
