4 million seems pretty easy tbh.
Cal still has a track team? Had no idea.

Usually when admin talks about "cuts that may happen" it's too late. These cuts will happen.
Good thing Shayla Houlihan is the coach in waiting.
It looks like Tony Sandoval will outlive the entire T&F program!

Who!????
What about Cal State Chino?
Brutus Hamilton predicted this.
Gotta pay for the repairs to all the buildings on campus that get vandalized every time there is a protest. Cutting men's track must be the way to do it. Using new housing as the excuse is just a cover for the real reasons, ha ha.
What's up with this? Isn't Cal one of those "loaded" rich-boy schools? 🤔
Residential housing is a money making endeavor for any university.
Think about it. Mandatory one year or two year stays for students. The university can self direct 100 percent occupancy and price. This trend has been growing. The housing has become more and more lavish. The cost has been going up and up. Inelastic demand. It's money making at its finest all the while convincing students parents its in their children's best interest... safety, better test scores, acclimating better to university life. How can anyone deny those claims and if its mandatory well you stay or you go.
For a big school that's going to attract a lot of good HS athletes no matter what, but that doesn't want to put in the resources to having a really good team, a club model probably makes more sense. They appear to already have one

And anyone that wants the competition experience/structured workouts/even to hire a coach is welcome to arrange that. That's how ultimate frisbee and rugby worked where I went to college and it worked out fine for them.
Sorry to the people whose scholarships get cut though.
Trying to remember, but isn't that stadium right on the fault line? Wouldn't that be a rawther dangerous place to house students?
Ain't that where Jim Ryun set the mile WR back in the late 60s?
Another memorial to tear down.
Whenever I hear that Power 5 schools might cut track to plug a budget hole, I always wonder why they don't stop putting their footplayers in hotel rooms for HOME games.
Wait. I thought the deep blue areas of the USA were awash in money? What?
Cal is a sh*t hole. Looney leftists have utterly destroyed the campus. Only naive foreigners and midwest girls who dont know how awful it is come here.

They are awash in money but they have to give it all to the administrators. Cal in particular is corrupt when it comes to giving administrators homes to live in, new cars, expense accounts and other perks. Bain did a study of UC Berkeley and found massive amounts of "overlapping responsibility" by campus managers - Cal's proposed solution was to terminate 37 janitors to offset the calculated cost of the excess low-level managers. I use to respect Cal until I spent time there and got to know the mentality of the place. Truly a cesspool.

The problem with finding the money, is that its doubled. Dollars are proprtional between men's and women's sports. $ million more to keep men's track going, means millions to women's sports.
Football is the only possible money maker and you can only squeeze so much out to cover other men's sports, and all the women's sports..
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
