I hope letsrun now understands why you don't front run a 5k. Stop telling Kenyans to try it with Farah.

Frontrunning any distance is possible if you have the tools - physical and mental. Huddles, evidently, does not have them, or at least, she did not have them today.
It amazes me sometimes how fast these DEVESTATED threads come up after a race
She is still in though.

Lol, as if anyone here has even broken 15. No one here has any idea how to race above the high school level

Uh - she made the final. So, not devastated

She qualified thanks to her approach, numb nuts.
She qualified!
so the tactic worked!
she was not trying to win. she was giving herself the best way to qualify, because she would not have done it trying to kick with the field.
you idiot. she's not going home. she's in the final.

She arguably would have qualified easier had she just stayed with the pack though
She forgot her name is Molly Huddle, and not Almaz Ayana.

It worked for Chelimo in the US 5k, it worked for Pre in many races, and it worked for many others against sit-and-kick runners.
The problem is that those were finals. This was a prelim which does not really make sense to do what she did.
Has Molly been injured? Beginning to think she shouldn't have run a marathon. It seems once elites move up they can't capture that 10,000 sharpness again.
And gotten sixth in a slow time and been eliminated.SHe did the right thing.

And 5,000. Good point. Will be interesting to see how she runs her next 26.2
NO, the tactic did not work. The tactic for an athlete of Huddle's pedigree, in a heat as undermanned like that one, is to qualify as easily as possible. She had the lead and was controlling the pace, 3X tried to wave someone else to the front, got frustrated, and took her frustration out on herself!! Could have brought them through 4km. @ 15:30 pace & pushed a hard K. MUCH easier to recover from than what she pulled
