Also, if his aunt had balls, she'd be his uncle.
You compare running a 26 minute plus race 1.2 seconds faster with a woman having balls?
As our Commander in Chief would tweet: Sad!
Carlos Lopes ran 3:41 for 1500, = 3:58 mile
and won Only marathon in 1984 LA
he was also mentioned in an episode of the Simpsons!
Has Rupp been featured on the Simpsons yet?
Meb's 3:42.29 1500 coverts to a 4:00.01 mile in the calculator I used. He has run 4:02.
I was hoping to see one that you all overlooked, but nope.

But Meb is not in NOP and gives better interviews than Rupp, so let's just give it to him anyway. I'm sure someone can find a conversion calculator that will make up that .01 second.

Nahhh. On this thread, you just need to say, "If Meb had run...."

His IAAF page has his 1500m PR as 3:44.3, which is slower than a 4 minute mile.

Still an interesting fact if Kipchoge and Rupp are the only ones to have ever done so.
Another interesting fact is that Galen Rupp has run the fastest 10000m in the world since 2011 when Kenenisa Bekele was still on the track.

And when was the ABP introduced?
when did EPO test become valid?

Kipchoge isn't a sub 4 miler?
Well they do hand the bronze guy his medal before the gold

Not so much a fact, but more a collection of circumstances that includes doping and federation complicity in doping.
Frank Short ran the 5,000 in 13:26. He never ran a sub 4:00 mile? His 5,000 time is a better performance than a 4:00 mile....

BOOM!
Rupp is the first ever sub-4 miler in history to win an Olympic medal in the marathon!

The ABP started in 2009.
Kenenisa Bekele has the fastest 10,000m time of all-time (26:17.53) set in 2005.
Kenenisa Bekele also has the fastest time since 2009 of 26:43.16 set in 2011.
Galen Rupp was 3rd in that race in 26:48.
This is not a big surprise.
Lucas Rotich was 2nd in that race with a time of 26:43.98, which is also faster than Galen' all-time best.
I am sorry about that.
This is a great thing for Rupp which brings out 2 thingsGood: Rupp is representing the USA well, much like Webb did.Bad: Rupp has to endure haters of his success, much like Webb did.

if Jim Ryan had run the marathon in 1972, and beat Frank Shorter-He'd have also been in the 4 Minutue Mile/Olympic Marathon Medal club--and would have had a gold medal to boot.

This is pure gold.
The spelling is Jim Ryun (and his 1500m PR could of been 3:24.03636374893 according to calculo's brain... which is damaged from too much alcohol.)

IAAF, all-athletics, tfrrs, athletics.com, etc....all of them, are not a complete picture. All are missing some Seasonal Best and/or Personal Records performances for some or many athletes. So the IAAf profile may be missing Lopes 3:41

2008? Pretty sure Bekele went sub 26:30 in the pre 10,000m that year
Just to be official
2008 Prefontaine Classic
10,000 Metres -Men
1 Bekele , Kenenisa ETH 26:25.97
2 Jeilan , Ibrahim ETH 27:13.85
3 Zewdie , Maregu ETH 27:14.13
4 Kiptoo , Mark Kosgei KEN 27:14.67
5 Tola , Tadese ETH 27:15.17
6 Kimutai , Kiplimo KEN 27:16.49
7 Abdirahman , Abdihakem USA 27:16.99
8 Kosgei , Barnabas Kiplagat KEN 28:15.66
9 Harroufi , Ridouane MAR 28:20.67
Cherkos , Abreham ETH DNF Luchini Jr. , Louis USA DNF Cheboiywo , Boaz KEN DNF Regassa , Tilahun ETH DNS Meftah , Abdellatif MAR DNS Kipngetich , Robert Sigei KEN DNS
So the correct statement is " until the day Rupp did it, no sub-4 miler had ever win an Olympic medal in the marathon ."
