http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=5418923&page=1In this thread Renato Canova, who I think trained him at the time, if not then previously, talks about what Wilson Kipsang could do for a mile. 4:03-4:05 he estimates Wilson could run while in top shape for marathon. Bekele and Kipchoge could most likely run a bit faster as they were previously good in shorter distances aswell, but I don't think they would beat him by alot because I think training for marathon even the grounds a bit.
Marathon Bekele and Marathon Kipchoge would hammer Kipsang's ass so hard in a mile it wouldn't even be funny. If Canova's gonna give a 27:30 never-track/kinda-10k guy 4:03 credit then I honestly don't see the other two being less than 8 seconds faster in a mile duel. Has Kipsang ever run a 52 quarter? 😂
I get that the marathon is whooaaaa soooooo different than track but it's not like Bekeke and Kipchoge suddenly couldn't bang out a decent mile. Like their legs suddenly developed speed amnesia then forgot how to turn over. Christ, Bekele ran 4:03 pace for 5k.... Kipchoge isn't much slower.
The balance between track god Bekele and 2:03 Marathon Bekele at a mile is a hell of a lot faster than 4:03. I'd wager ~3:55 because nothing he does is surprising. That's fast but only suckers discount the man. Not so sure about Kipchoge but sub-4:00 for damned sure.
