Yes, but only on a technicality. Bill Dellinger won the '56 NCAA 5k but I don't think Oregon ever went to the NCAA XC while he was there.

Ole Oleson USC back when they ran the 3 mile in 1969. Defeated Frank Shorter and Dick Buerkle.
Jon Dennis of South Florida won the 5000m twice in the 90's while not accomplishing nearly anything in XC at the national level. I think he was 85th or so one year.
He wasn't American but was a 5000m winner with no XC credentials.

Was 11th All-American in 1968? Because that's how he finished at the NCAA that year.
