People who install Tesla solar roofs also install rain gutters. The guy even talks about it in the video.
If you have yet to see them be cost effective then you aren't looking. In most parts of the world it's the cheapest way to generate electricity. That includes snowy areas. Even Alaska has solar farms. It's why solar is growing so fast.
