Most plane trips can be eliminated as well. In about 10 years it will be far cheaper, more convenient, and almost as fast to take a high-speed electric robotaxi instead of a plane. Airplanes will be mostly just for going overseas.
How high are you right now?
You're going to get me from ATL to LA in 4.5 hours in the next ten years?
If you doubled the current flight time, you'd still have to average 250mph over the road.
I can go online right now and order a Tesla that goes 200MPH. And it only costs 120K. Prices will continue to go down and specs will continue to go up.
So in ten years it's not hard to see that there will be a fleet of robotaxis that can do well over 200MPH. At 250MPH, the trip from ATL to LA takes under 9 hours. So it will pick you up at your Atlanta home in the morning and drop you at Dodger stadium in time for the game.
Or, you could do it as an overnight trip and sleep in a full size bed on the way there.
Plus, it will do it for half the cost of a plane ticket and you don't have to go to the airport. You don't have to deal with the crowds. You get privacy, peace, and quiet.
Much better than flying and much better for the environment.
