Melania has not been seen in public since January 1st. If Trump is bunkering he either alone or with a Melania surrogate.

Well, he is not bunkering with Hope Hicks.
https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/hope-hicks-exits-trump-administration-1234881712/Maybe Hope Hicks. She has been Trump's arm candy until she gave everyone Covid.
News of the insane.
Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) was armed with a gun inside the House floor as the riots started. He said, "Fortunately, I was armed, so we would have been able to protect ourselves" It is illegal for members of Congress to carry firearms on the House floor and in the Senate chambers. Cawthorn's excuse is, according to his spokesperson, "Congressman Cawthorn also abides by all Capitol Police regulations that he is informed of." What a f***ing copout. He has to be told what the rules are. He is not responsible for reading them himself. Another idiot who needs to be removed.

What makes you think that being tried in the Senate would stop him from inspiring violence if he wanted.
It’s about dishing the proper punishment and if he’s no longer president he’s less dangerous. Any popular person can inspire violence, but you should get to continue being president if you do. Of course, there has to be accountability and trump would not have been a factor if the GOP hadn’t welcomed him in.

Nah, Imma give him a break on that. That's been SOP for many administrations.

Donald J. Trump is the first president ever to be impeached twice.

But it not Trump's usual SOP. He likes to be seen as a tough guy unglazed near his supporters. Everyone gets screened by the Secret Service and then no bullet enclosure is needed for the Tuff Guy optics. In this case there was no screening for weapons, and mayhem was about to occur, and National Guard was being held back for two hours.
Call it what you like, but this was not a typical protect the president event. They knew Trump needed extra protection because of the way Trump had set up the day's insurrection.
Welp, POTUS is now at a nice round 40.0% approval (and 55.8% disapproval). Still not at his horrendous numbers from 2017, but he's going up (in disapproval) and down (in approval) very fast. Just a few days left, but he might PR!
betting odds now 37% that the senate will convict sometime in the next 100 days.
The argument seems to be that Mitch will signal what to do and some number of senators will follow. And Mitch is signaling he might vote to convict. To kick trump out of the 2024 election.

note: Without hacks Rasmussen the numbers are in the 30s.
As I've said, I think he's done AND Trumpism is done. It's not just the Populist person who is done after one election, it's the cause as well. When I say Trumpism is done, I mean as a political power it's done. There might he a "Patriot Party" or some other such nonsense, but it won't do well, and not only will it not do well, it will fade in interest quickly. MOST of those who came in and voted for Trump who had never voted for a President before will go back to those old ways and will stay away from voting again. Not all of those 74 million who voted for Trump in November are still rabid about him today, including my in-laws.
There are going to be some more stupid Trumpers doing stupid things between now and Jan. 20 and maybe even after that, but they will be quickly diffused. As bad as Jan. 6 was, the Capitol Police were not prepared, SOME of those knuckleheads had military training and came prepared and organized, and they STILL didn't come anywhere close to obtaining their objective.
We will just have to wait and see what happens, but with the vaccine here, Trump out of office and facing serious legal issues the rest of his miserable life, people seeing what is going to happen to these losers who stormed the Capitol, and Biden ending every speech with "May God protect our troops", I think they're going to move on.
