Likewise, as socialism becomes more mainstream how do we prevent a hardcore socialist from becoming president?
Obviously a corrupt leader under any system is bad.
Trump is not really a Republican. He's a person who looks out for himself and found it easier to get Republicans to vote for him with his personality.
If we had a socialist system, Trump would be as dangerous as leader then.
The shocking part of this is that it broke down at so many levels.
First, Trump somehow wins the Republican nomination. Mostly because the party was fractured and they had no real Republican to rally around.
Then he wins the presidency even while getting millions of fewer votes than his main opponent.
We can go to a popular vote or an open primary system that combines all parties and gives exactly two choices in the general election. Ensuring the winner gets over 50% of the votes.
The real breakdown was that his party allowed him to break ethics rules and even laws without any negative ramifications.
This really has to do with the fact that Republicans can win the majority of senate seats that represent a minority of the country population wise.
We'd need to add states or maybe even combine some states to get a better distribution of the people to senator ratio.
Trump and the Republicans exploited every flaw in the Constitution to consolidate their power.
The Founding Fathers were people of the time, not gods.
