Summary of some of President Trump's falsehoods in Cincinnati:
.
"If a windmill is within two miles of your house, your house is practically worthless."
According to people in real estate, including scholarly research, this is simply not true.
.
"We're replacing random migration and we're replacing the lottery system. How about the lottery system? . . . The country puts the name in the basket. And you pick people out of the lottery. 'Well, let's see, this one's a murderer. This one robbed four banks, this one ... I'd better, not say ... this one, another murderer, ladies and gentlemen, another murderer.'"
This one is easy: The green card lottery is for *individuals* who enter themselves in it and *countries* don't put anyone, let alone criminals, in it. And the lottery winners are very thoroughly checked. (Anyone can check how the lottery works on Google.)
.
"The greatest betrayal committed by the Democrats is their support for open borders."
NOT ONE Democratic candidate is on record as favoring "open borders." NOT ONE.
.
"We will always protect patients with pre-existing conditions."
"We" (i.e. President Trump and GOPers in Congress) have already shown that that's a lie. The Trump administration is right now arguing for a complete dismantling of the ACA, with no substitute protection in place for those with pre-existing conditions.
.
"We passed VA Choice . . . on behalf of our great veterans. They've been trying to pass VA Choice for four decades. "
VA Choice was enacted in 2014. Barack Obama signed the bill.
.
Trump said he would "let [vets] go outside, go to a private doctor. We'll pay the bill . . . and they can do it immediately.'"
My dad was career military. Vets know that you can go to a private doctor *and get reimbursement* only if you're looking at three weeks' wait (or more) with the VA.
.
"We won 32 states, there's never been anything like it."
Ridiculous. President Trump won *30* states. Nixon and Reagan both won 49/50.
.
"End catch and release. You know what you do: you catch 'em and then you release 'em and you say: 'Would you please report back in four years from now?' But only 2% come back."
Egregious lie. The vast majority appear in court. Again, easy to find this on Google.
.
"We ended up winning Ohio by close to nine points, which is unheard of..."
So easy to check. MULTIPLE presidents have won Ohio by more than twice that much.
.
"One hundred and twenty three thousand more Ohio workers are employed today than when I was elected."
Nope, a little more than half that.
.
"We need good people. We're down to 3.5% unemployment."
Unemployment has never hit 3.5% while DJT has been in office. Ever.
.
"And I came in, I had one hundred and forty-eight [judicial] openings. I said -- you're supposed to have none. "
Nope. There were about a hundred openings, and every incoming president encounters vacancies.
.
"The previous administration tried to shut down American energy."
No, they didn't. Production of oil and gas went *up* during the Obama years. Just a lie here.
.
Trump said Obama tried to end use of "clean, beautiful coal."
"Clean coal" is a particular technology that attempts to make coal *less* dirty. Coal itself--the coal industry--is NOT clean. (Black lung, anyone?) This somehow reminds me of the "clean diesel" that VW was pushing a few years back. Uhh, no.
.
"China devalues their currency . . . and because they do that you're not paying for those tariffs, China's paying for those tariffs."
Simple economics: Americans are bearing the *overwhelming* majority of the tariffs' costs. Not actually disputed by economists, whether they be of the left or the right.
.
"We're building the wall faster and better than ever."
Zero miles of new wall have been built. Zero. Again, not actually in dispute. He's put up less than 100 miles of *replacement* barriers, but that's it. No new wall, at all. Promise made, promise not kept. Lie made.
.
"For 44 years, they've been trying to get Right to Try ... I got it approved."
"Right to Try" was not a "thing" until this decade. Forty-four years is a bald-faced lie.
