My brother is downsizing his gun collection and wants to get rid of a Rock River Arms LAR-8, 7.62mm instead of 5.56. Almost new condition.
Anybody shot one at this caliber? I'm worried that it's too high a caliber to enjoy.

Do NOT buy. Learn martial arts, dude.
The 7.62 has worked for the AK-47 for many years in many third world countries.

This is the NATO 7.62, aka akin to a .308, right? If so, it's a great round for hunting.
But if you don't hunt, if you just want a rifle for home defense or sport shooting, then I'd pass.
If your brother wants to give it to you for free, then take it of course.

My brother in law has that same rifle along with the classic AR-15 in 5.56. The thing about ARs and guns like it is the recoil doesn't really go into your shoulder, it goes into loading the next round.
I'm not a big guy at 5'9" 150lbs but I've had no problems with a 7.62 being too big.
Thanks.
I was looking for personal experience, especially if someone has fired both.
So typically American to settle for the AR over the WR.
Post of the day. 10/10

I would pass, just on ammo cost alone. Double the price. Get a short barrel 223, something you can hide under your car seat.
