Nitecore HC30 with 18650 Li-On battery, not the CR123A
Options 1, 70, 210, 400, 1000 lumens
Switching between these modes as appropriate in a typical mixed run through lit and unlit areas, I would say that the 18650 loses about 25% of its charge per hour.
Bump!
Which one did you get and do you like it?
At least for trail running the Petzl Nao is the gold standard, and reactive lighting saves you a lot of battery.
I have a Petzl Bindi. It's ultralight weight (1.2 oz) and can easily be tucked in a pocket if you don't need it for a whole run.

I love this one, top strap prevents it from sliding down, and very bright flood style light. Also has red back lights for added visibility
Foxelli rechargeable. 14.95 on Amazon. Works great - I just recharge it every three or four runs.
Just get a solar powered one...boom problem solved
If you’re looking for a headlamp yourself, I recommend the Petzl Tikkina with 250 lumen output, which you can get for 20$ from runningwarehouse, and a Core rechargeable battery. I use it all the time and battery life and light output are fine for everything up to moderate trails, but I wouldn’t do anything crazy with it.
For night orienteering, one of the gold standards is the LEDX Cobra.

A more budget, high power, night trail/off trail/orienteering setup would be to get a compact, remote battery style mountain bike light and headstrap.
For example, for less than $70:
- Yinding with two Cree XM-L2 neutral white emitters, roughly 300/600/1200 lumens on low/med/high, about $30.
- 2x18650 battery pack from fasttech, about $12 shipped
- Magicshine/Gemini Lights/Gloworm or similar Li-ion charger for 8.4V battery packs, about $10-15
- headstrap with the mount that simulates a bike handlebar, $8-10

+1 on the sprinter. Good amount of brightness in a very useful pattern. Also lightweight enough that I barely notice it is there.
