Given the question you asked, I'm not sure you know what a resume is.

Do you?
Boston Billy
Does anybody remember Bill Rogers? I recall a Bill Rogers who was a decent runner but couldn't find any info. He was running near the time Bill Rodgers was running.
I did just find a Bill Rogers who ran the 1989 Utica Boilermaker in 47:32 at 40 years old. He is listed as being from New York.
Bill Rodgers. No contest.
Bill Rodgers was already 27 in 1975 when he came out of nowhere to come in 3rd at World Cross and win Boston and become the first American under 2:10:00. Track & Field News ranked him #1 in the world in the marathon in 1975, 1977 and 1979.
Dathan has had a nice career.
Bill seals it, now and forever, just by holding the tape today at NYC.

Did two time winner Tom Fleming have the other end?
Dathan much better on track, better in cross-country, toss-up on roads. Rodgers was basically injury-free during his career. That's the only reason we are having the conversation.

The only reason we are having this conversation is that Rodgers was injury-free? Are you here for laughs?

Correct. Am I missing something?

We in to hypotheticals now? If Runner A had not had this injury, and this other injury, and this yet another injury, he would have had a better career than Runner B?
I think we agree with each other...
Bill Rodgers by a long shot.
You can make arguments about not having to race East Africans and such, but BR raced against who was there, he raced often, and yeah remaining injury free is part of your legacy.
By the time Rupp is done, I think GR will surpass BR.
I would submit that Rodgers wasn't injury free- he bombed at Montreal with a hamstring injury finishing 40 th.
GR has a long way to go before he passes BR IMO- 4 NYC,4 Bostons, 1 Fukuoka ( when it was considered a world class race) > 2 Olympic medals.
Rupp will compete at Majors but does he have it to actually win repeatedly?
Bill defined American road running in his era. Ritz does not have a talking point like that on his c.v.
Injury or rather absence of injury is another positive when evaluating a persons sports career.
While it is always hard to compare different eras Bill ran and won or placed well no matter who showed up to race.
The idea of saying that if he wasn't injured he would have done this or that is folly. You don't actually do it--- it ain't on your resume.
Plus Bill dips cold pizza into the mayo jar and eats it standing in the light from the refrigerator, he puts egg salad on chocolate chip cookies and washes it down with beer. What does Ritz bring to the training table that remotely compares?

He said before the race he was going to put everything on the table. Is that the same?
