I used to smoke a lot in college and was still able to run these times:
800: 1:54.20
Mile: 4:20
5k: 14:20
8k xc: 24:20
You'll be fine.
^^^Smoking might make you slow like this guy. I used to smoke and still do. I ran these times:
800: 1:44.20
1500: 3:34.20
Mile: 3:54.20
3000m indoor: 7:44.20
5000: 13:14.20
Here's my take, if you care for it. 20 yrs old, have plenty of experience both smoking and running.
Cross Country season is not the time to start experimenting with drugs or alcohol. While weed is not addictive, it can cause negative side affects, most notably laziness (in the medium-long term) and anxiety (experienced short term AND long term, while under the influence and after). Smoking weed is fine, just don't get caught by your parents or anyone besides your friends.
And please, wait until your season is over to try it. Everyone will respond differently their first couple times smoking. And if you are a big thinker or have any anxiety, social or otherwise, I can almost promise you'll experience anxiety when you smoke and possibly for a couple days afterwards.
I'm glad that you're intelligent and wary enough to seek out advice. My best advice, once again, is to just wait until the end of your season. The first time I purchased and smoked was 2 days before my state meet senior year of high school. So stupid. I was very anxious buying it, and after smoking, I was very anxious about the race and I just totally psyched myself out the day of and ran way off what I knew I was capable of.
Also, I recommend waiting until sophomore or junior year of high school to try smoking, but I think it'd be fine if just once or twice while you're only 14. Just don't go out of your way to seek it out at your age, because I believe it can affect neural development in adolescents if used often.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the irresponsible advice being given on this thread. People here are ignoring the fact that you will likely get addicted.
Sure, it might not hurt you all that much to smoke weed once, but there's no guarantee that you'll be able to make yourself stop after you've tried it. Why would you risk a lifetime of drug addiction?
lifetime of drug addiction. hahaha, that's a good one.
Here's my story....take from it what you want.
I didn't smoke or drink anything in high school. It wasn't until my junior year of college that I started smoking. First few times were low key with friends on the weekend. I didn't smoke again until after track season was over going in to my senior year. That summer I logged the most mileage I had ever done, and smoked 2 or 3 times a week, all summer. Once my sr year of college xc started I stopped smoking for about 3 months, but right after I won our conference meet, I blazed to celebrate. Woke up the next morning (Sunday) and did a moderate 18 miler (still stoned) and felt great. After nationals I started smoking more regularly while still logging big miles. I felt ZERO negative impact. My senior year of track I was smoking 3 to 4 times a week, mostly after a hard workout, and on the weekends after races. I ended up setting PR's in the 3k indoors, 5k indoors, and then in both 5k and 10k outdoors. Could I have run even 1 second faster if I had not been smoking off and on those months...............probably not.
After college I quit running competitively to focus on other hobbies I had not been able to fully enjoy while training year round. I continued to smoke during this time as well.
It's now been 8 years since I graduated college. In the past 4 years I have smoked at least once, every single day. There have been a few days here and there when sick that I didn't smoke, or the 2 days we were in the hospital when my daughter was being born, but I pretty much smoke every day. I smoke before work, sometimes on my lunch break, and every night at home. I have a fantastic career, great family, amazing relationship with my wife (non-smoker) and have a successful side business. Did marijuana prohibit me from accomplishing any of what I have....f*ck no.
"Dude, you have kids, I can't believe you are high around them." Yes....I know....it's horrible. I mean, I sit and play toys with my 4 year old little boy for hours on end and give him an extra 37 hugs......so yes, I understand how "awful" I am as a parent.......
I still run, hike, lift weights, swim, play on a club basketball team, etc. I'm extremely active. I'm 14 lbs heavier than I was in college. I don't sit around and do nothing, regardless of if I am high or not. Am I ever going to be in the shape I was in college.......no, not running wise. But I don't feel that smoking has negatively impacted my running, not at all. If it has, I sure can't tell.
NO, smoking doesn't make you lazy. If you are worried about that, don't smoke indicas make sure you stick to sativa strains. They are much more energetic.
With that being said, I believe the OP said they are only 14. At 14 stay away because most likely you are only going to be around a bunch of punk-ass trouble makers that are only going to bring you down and be a distraction. Focus on your goals and let nothing stop you from achieving success, whatever that may be for you.
Disclaimer: I live in CO so I'm breaking no laws by purchasing and using said substance.

Obviously, it effects your brain and can make you stupid. The proof is when people say "I've ran". Basic grade school intelligence is compromised - don't do it.dun g

"im 14" are you trolling? Either you live in the ghetto or you trolling cause 14yr olds dont smoke
"or you live in a ghetto" lol you ignorant fu*k
Yes.
“Stop trolling†are you kidding me just because someone says that they want to smoke that does not mean that they are from the ghetto I know some rich who’re kids that smoke and are from the suburbs and not everyone from the ghetto smokes. That is truly offensive you need to write something positive or don’t write at all
I smoke regularly anywhere from 5-10 blunts worth a week. I can still run a 12:25 2 mile and play soccer without dying. In all honesty smoking before I do any exercise makes me feel less tired.
If you have even the slightest predisposition to addiction or mental illness it will turn you into a schizophrenic addict.
Yes it will affect you, for about 4 hours. How do you know it will be a one time thing? After you try it once, all the reasons you wanted to try it the first time (curiosity, peer pressure, etc.) will just be amplified. And if you go down that road of excessive pot use during your teenage years, you will end up noticeably slower as an adult. By slower, I'm talking both physically and mentally.
It does make you stupid, despite what all the advocates say. Trust me, when you are an adult, you can talk to someone and know within 10 seconds whether they smoked a lot of pot when they were young.
Actually smoked for my first time this past Saturday, and raced this past Tuesday. I had previously done edibles, so this was not my first time high.
I was suuuper loose and relaxed Sunday morning when I woke up. We had raced Saturday morning and I smoked that night, and I was expecting to be tight and sore as usual after a race, but was pleasantly surprised to be the most loose and fresh I've felt in a long time. Ran while still a bit loopy Sunday morning, that was enjoyable, but I couldn't focus long enough to go faster than 7:00 pace, still really comfortable, breathing was normal.
Tuesday I ran my best race of the year, so I'd say short-term the smoking wasn't at all bad for my running, in fact the relaxation may have helped me get more rest, though I'm sure chronic use would mess your aerobics up.
Chris Barnicles smokes and is fast as hell
Since when do 14 year olds not smoke?? I’m 14 and about 40% have smoked at least once
Some of you have referenced vaping as being better for your lungs. How is it different? I vape nightly and haven't noticed any effect on my lungs whatsoever, but I still worry.

Don't do it. You do not meet the requirements of being 21 and residing in a jurisdiction where medical or regular cannabis is legal.
^This. Whether you like it or not, many U.S. cannabis laws are draconian and unforgiving. Adolescents have a way of thinking they’re invincible, but of course that’s not true. Law enforcement and the penal system in this country are not friendly to nonviolent drug offenders. Beware fam
Cbd is truly the next best thing in medical advancement. It is primarily popular because of it's health benefits and effectiveness it can offer. I've watch a lot of video about how CBD works it's magic in a snap. Marijuana strains can give you different effect . I use cannabis for relief the muscle pain after a serious injury . I have recently bought a Grobo box , It is a box specially designed for growing marijuana . Now I could not worry about where to buy weed or to get medical prescription . I installed this box in my grow cabinet and now I is working totally autonomy . If you are interested in that product just visit the link https://www.grobo.io/blogs/grobo/what-is-a-grow-closet-cabinet.
Ok your pretty stupid if you think 14 year olds don’t smoke like you don’t have to live in the ghetto. Your obviously just oblivious and unaware
