Can we stop stating "full benefits." If you do not get full benefits you have a part time job or are a independent contractor.
Also we assume they pay for your cell phone, if not you work for a crap college.
Watching you guys pretend that the love of your job is worth $30,000 makes me so happy I left. As someone who got out, let me tell you weekends are better than the love of the game. I feel bad for all of your families, you are awful parents or spouses.

Under 40k/yr + minor bonuses
Spent those first four & a half years either volunteering or being paid 2k/yr. By the time I got my first full time job at 35k as a head XC coach, my peers I had graduated with had at least doubled that but more often tripled that. They had houses, families, stable life. I'm in my mid-30's now, still rent someone's spare bedroom I found on craigslist, eat the cheapest meals out of cans & boxes I can find at the grocery store & my stomach still drops when I encounter a minor unforeseen expense. I have zero intention of dragging a spouse or family into this...wouldn't be fair. That's (part of) the reason I'm very single. It's been a great profession...at times...my carefree bachelor 20's with very little responsibility & a naive, overly-romanticized view of the job kept me motivated & relatively happy. But as you get into your 30's you start to realize what you're really giving up. I can't say I'd choose it again if I had the chance to go back. I'd probably get out but there's nothing else I really want to do...
For those who got out after 10+ years...how'd you do it?
