The vomeros is a maximal cushioned shoe. That is why it feels clunky, because it carries a lot of weight. You guys should be running in the Nike Zoom Elite. You get the structure and support, but it is lighter, and it is very responsive in the forefoot. And I'm sure your feet will move a lot freely in them compared to the vomeros.
If the shoes are not working for you, then the coach needs to understand that. The job of a coach is to make sure that his runners are wearing the right shoes. It's not a one size fits all situation, since all runners are not created equally.
Bill Bowerman made specialized shoes for each runner on his team according to the dimensions and shape of each runner's foot , AND THAT IS THE MAN WHO CREATED NIKE!
Talk to your parents and doctor if you have one, because what he is forcing you to do is unacceptable. The focal point should be to find a NIKE( if they are the sponsors) shoe that works for you ,that is considered supportive and stable enough for your runs. Period.
