I wish the Democrats were as concerned about the unsustainability of the US budget deficit as they are about the threat of climate change. Perhaps that's a way to negotiate for addressing both problems.

Good point. I am a Democrat but have to admit that Democrats have been much worse than Republicans on not reducing deficits. We talk a good game but in the end we are the worse offenders.

Lots of ways of looking at the facts but the following should dispel the notion that Republicans are great at controlling the deficit while Democrats are the problem (of course, it won't since we have moved into the post-fact age in American politics):

"Economist Mike Kimel has noted that the former Democratic Presidents (Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Lyndon B. Johnson, John F. Kennedy, and Harry S. Truman) all reduced public debt as a share of GDP, while the last four Republican Presidents (George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford) all oversaw an increase in the country's indebtedness."

The national debt under Obama increased more than it did under ALL 43 previous presidents. End of Story!

Completely misleading.

The "smooth" portion of the graph is generated by computer models while the jaggy portion is actual data. If you estimated today's temperatures with the same methods used pre 19th century the graph would continue to be smooth.

Yeah, that truly IS the story for many who fully embrace the post-fact age of American politics.

Those with a brain would probably consider the following to be pertinent:

1) Most of that huge growth in the deficit was a result of The Great Recession which we entered into under Bush and climbed out of under Obama

2) The legislative branch has been controlled by the GOP during Obama's term (and the legislative branch controls spending)

3) As previously posted, prior to Obama the last 4 GOP presidents all presided over an increase in the debt relative to GDP while the last 5 Dem presidents all presided over a decrease in debt/GDP

Like I said, both sides suck at controlling the deficit. The difference between you and me is that I am an honest man and you lack all integrity (or else you are a complete moron - take your pick).

This first chart misses a strange spike in temperature around the time of the US civil war, that immediately reversed itself.

I noticed it in Al Gore's documentary yet he never mentioned it. The 1880-1910 period was the coldest period in the last 1500 years.

Also Greenland was a lot warmer then estimated in generalized charts.
