You actually looked at the time results one race and made that determination?
Jager ran 8:04 in an Olympics Games setting, surely that's and indication of him being ready to break 8:00 in Brussels in the evening in perfect conditions .
I did. Yes he could probably break 8 but this is about the WR. Try to keep up.
If he breaks the world record I will devote my season to try to run a sub 9 steeple or a sub 15 5k.
If he doesn't I'll still try to run sub 15 minutes.

You didn't say anything about the WR. You said that one race in which he did excellent tells you he can't break 8:00. I'm trying to figure how you came to that determination?

Because it didn't seem like a strong enough race. Have you really forgotten that much about running?
Rone for example would have crushed that 5k and he never sniffed 8.
He said "he didn't run fast enough to indicate sub 8 ability," and "he could probably break 8."
Note that not breaking 8 means and/or that 8 will be a challenge for him indicates he won't be close to the record.
Brahim Boulami has broken the steeplechase record twice, with times of 7:55.28 and 7:53.17.
The previous double record breaker was Moses Kiptanui with times of 8:02.08 and 7:59.18, also the first man under 8 minutes, in 1995.
Anders Gärderud broke the record on 4 occasions, with times from 8:20.8 to 8:08.2.
if he breaks the world record, every letsrun frequenter should do a simultaneous Jager bomb at 10:00pm EST
Thank you. Hopefully malmo gets this now. Jager has the ability but that race made it look like his form is going the wrong way currently.
Plus we also saw how his missed sub 8 last year was not rectified in later races.
Jager doesn't seem to go from strength to strength over a series of races.

Are you new to the sport? You actually looked at the time results one race and made that determination?

Lol. Almaz Ayana ran 29:17 in an Olympics games setting, surely that's an indication of being ready to break 29 minutes in a diamond race with perfect conditions!!! Put Wayde Van Niekerk in there too! Oh, and Clayton Murphy's 1:42 in the 800m indicates he is ready to break the world record!
Fact is, a good number of those races in Rio including the 400m, 800m, the steeples(both men and women) and the women 10000m were well-paced and the times they recorded were either lifetime bests or close to that. Jager was in the best shape of his life last year and could have run 7:57 or maybe even 7:56. Its unfortunate that he fell. Prediction for Brussels: 8:00 - 8:02.
Here are the latest dates that an American held an outdoor world record.
09/07/2003- marathon (Khalid Khannouchi)
09/03/1983- 1,500 meters (Sydney Maree)
06/30/1980- 1,000 meters (Rick Wohlhuter)
05/17/1975- mile (Jim Ryun)
06/01/1973- 800 meters (Dave Wottle)
And I will release my man-bun from it's tethered moorings.

The other races were all better conditions than the men's SC (which was very hot) and the women's 10,000 pushed the pace from the beginning, which didn't happen in the SC. No one has run faster than 8:03 in an Olympic SC.
The steeple allows the athletes to cool off in a pool every lap. The other races don't have that luxury.

+1
Believe me, Jager's first sub 8 will have to wait until next year.

With all due respect, Jäger really has no chance to break the steeplechase world record. The difference between 8:00 and 7:53 is huge. It is like when Webb ran 3:46.91. Nobody in their right mind thought he could then run 3:43.12. Now, of course Jäger would have broken 8 if he had not fallen. But still, it is just too much time for him to cut off.
I do think his Olympic effort also indicates he could break 8. His Zurich 5000m was nice and really doesn't tell us much about his steeplechase, other than he is not afraid to front run. Anyway, it should be exciting,
It is just "Evan Jager", there is no umlaut over the "a" in his last name. Stop writing it that way.

One thing it doesn't talk about is the possibility of Jager breaking the world record. I'm throwing it out there.
Did you read my preview Weldon? I agree that Jager has a small chance at the WR.
"Given how well he ran in Paris last year (he likely would have clocked 7:56 or 7:57 without the fall), it’s not inconceivable that he could beat the old world record too."

I swear I read it. Proof most people, including myself, can skim previews at times ;)
