Take someone like Seb Coe, build lots of muscle and only do speed work at the start of their career, run 10.4. Lose the muscle, put in huge volume and marathon specific training, run 2:15 10 years later. Hard? Yes. Impossible? No.
I don't think you understand how fast the women's sprint records are lol. Most elite 800 runners, even if they trained as pure sprinters, would be unable to reach 10.49. For the really speed oriented guys that had a shot at 10.49, I doubt any of them would ever be able to train for 2:15 marathon. A few people might be able to train to get the records from the 400 up (maybe some elite 8/15 guys? I doubt many of the ones with ability to run 47.60 would ever be able to run 2:15 in the marathon).
