Looked to me like neither guy was really up for the race. Lackadaisical start, neither suffering near finish. Both have bigger fish to fry in a few weeks.

Anyone who thinks Murphy will run 3:28 in his career is delusional. Do you realize how FAST that is?
That's not to say he won't ever medal, as he's proved he's got excellent speed and the cajones to hang at the front in many tactical scenarios. But 3:28? Come on.

Centro does come off as a douche at times, but always a respectful competitor. Whereas Murphy seems very full of himself and never tries to congratulate competitors or acknowledge them after races. His twitter is pretty obnoxious as well. I am looking forward to what he does in the next few years, but people are giving him a personality pass and not Centro, which is confusing.
Lol you literally don't know either of them at all.
Looked like Murphy slowed and controlled the pace from the front during the 400-750m portion. This allowed him to rest up a bit and kick well in the last 200. It was a great piece of front running and a good tactic to use against centro who was looking for Murphy to go out hard and slow down in the last 60m like 800m runners are used to doing.

Take it back to the lab Centro. Loses to Murphy in the ATL 1000m by 0.08 seconds. 2:20.20 for Centro, 2:20.12
Both of them will get stomped in Rio.
You can watch the race free on ESPN. 1000m starts at 1:30:30 on this link:

Not free unless you are have a qualified IP provider, and willing to enter you name and password into the ESPN database, a database controlled by Adobe.
For me pass. I do have a qualified IP provider. ESPN and Adobe don't need my personal access info.
I'm sure Adobe and ESPN are bummed that they can't steal the identity of a paranoid Internet commenter

Can we please, please stop using this stupid qualifier (devastated)?
I'm sure Centro was not happy with 2nd, but the dude is way too mature to be "devastated" with the result.
Big Red GOES HOME DEVASTATED!!!

I know, right! How does Murphy have fanboys already? He'll never go sub 3:30. He'll never go sub 1:44.

That did not work out very well for Big Red ...(now tiny red).
If Hazel said Centrowitz won then Centrowitz won, period case closed. After all she is a professional sports announcer and all that.

I don't know about that - he certainly appears to be more talented than Nick Symmonds who ran sub 1:44 and ran a lot faster than Centro in an NCAA race (it appears Centro's NCAA PR was just 3:41 although he ran 3:34 that summer in Monaco, if Murphy runs a 1500 later this season I'm assuming he'll run faster than that). I don't know if he'll go sub-3:30 since Coe, Cram and Willis are the only white men who have done that) but 3:30 doesn't sound that impossible.

Only 2:20?? Lame, I thought they would actually go for it and run like 2:15 or 2:16.

Are you too cool to be a fan? Is it such a travesty for people to be excited about a young, talented runner?

Exactly.
In conclusion:
The entire race was stupid and too slow.
Centro also just used the race as a workout…and let Murphy (Irish) win because Centro likes Murphy. Centro was having fun with Murphy…because Murphy is gullible.
This race/workout by Centro did not really matter anyway.
OK?

Too cool to be a fan of a doped up athlete, yes. Anyone who thinks Murphy OR Centro are clean is delusional.
Ok you wise guys, yeah I'm wicked devastated.
But CENTRO is not! Ha ha.

Centro ran 3:36 as a Sophomore at Stanford.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
