Well, I was hoping to actually run with him, not catch him cheating, so I agree I wasn't fully prepared.
I would have talked with the crew if they wouldn't have drove away when I was running up to the RV, but when I saw them stopped after that, I just drove by because I was more interested in seeing what they would do next, rather than trying to confront them. As you pointed out, I didn't really have the right equipment for the job, so even trying to film a conversation with the crew might not have helped.
In this day in age, you also have to be worried about someone smashing your phone, or shooting you, or who knows what else...

I agree the evidence I can present is not conclusive, but being there in person proved to me without a doubt he was not running. My hope is that if other people have similar experiences, they will also share them. Similarly, maybe others still have the opportunity to try to meet up with him, and maybe they will be better prepared than I was to provide definitive evidence.

Running is about the only thing for me to do in Lebo, but I'm glad your life has little enough excitement that you had time to read my post and leave a comment. Thanks! -
He is probably running through the bigger cities, and riding on the RV in the middle of nowhere (Lebo) so as to not get caught. Best time/place to catch him would be middle of night in middle of nowhere again. If he gets to my state in a few days, I'll get him! In the meantime I'm going to watch reruns of Dog the Bounty Hunter to learn proper apprehension techniques.

Come on, man. A guy is working on setting an all-time record and is running right by your small town. It's cool to get out there and run with him a little. I think Asher was trying to have a memorable experience. -
His wiki page states 94 mara and ultra wins but I can't find much evidence.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_HP_Young
The only actual win I can find evidence for is a 3,100 race across the US. I don't know how those races work in terms of tracking but maybe he could have hopped in a car there too? Just saying -
Well apparently this guy is using the dane r playbook on cheating. Wonder if he got the same crew to help him like dane?
-
Wow. That sounds incredibly boring.

The RV incident details are what got me. If Rob continued on the sandy road they mistakenly took until he hits the only route that gets to Laughlin (US95)... that's a little less than 3 miles. The RV gets unstuck a half hour later and it takes them apparently about 20 minutes in the RV from after they get unstuck before they get to US95 themselves - bizarrely they drove that first few miles slow as if they were still leading a runner before they gave up the charade and drove fast up US95.... They then travel north on a path that should have intersected with where Rob would connect to US95 himself. If Rob was running fast enough to make 30 miles, according to the tracker, in sub 5 hours to Laughlin, how did the RV not end up seeing Rob on US95? If he didn't manage to make it to US95 on the shortest direct route off that sandy road then he actually ran in excess of 25-30 miles in 5 hours... because it's not a straight shot, it requires a bit of navigation or it looks like you could easily end up having to stop to get directions. And Rob supposedly called them on mobile within those first 30 minutes while they were still stuck to tell them to meet him in Laughlin, 30 miles away, which if he was running at the pace he claims to have done for that distance then he would have been *RIGHT THERE* at the US95 intersection where the RV could have met him up almost immediately after instead of having to be separated for so long.
Next I went to use google maps to verify the distance on exactly how far it is from where they got stuck outside of Mojave according to the tracker to get to Laughlin. Google maps says that distance is 38 miles on the shortest road route. Confused, I check the tracker distances again - at most it adds up to ~31mi. Then I realized, that's because the tracker is expecting short jumps of 12 minutes between spot tracks and no other movement, so it's actually calculating a distance as the crow flies using lat/lon, and has no idea about the distance from the roads themselves... That particular area is not a straight shot and they drove straight through it at 50mph. So the 31mi on their tracker actually undersells the real distance by quite a bit.
According to the tracker and the timestamp on their picture, they got stuck at ~8:20am Pacific, and unstuck by around 9am. They drove straight from there to Laughlin to wait for Rob, per Rob's command.
Then, according to the blog: "The 3 of us went to the Casino and put $20 each on the roulette table before having a swim in the pool and taking a shower." And they posted a picture of Rob in the pool at the hotel, which is timestamped as 12:52pm (verifiable by checking the shadows in the image).
The real of it is, from the image timestamps, and the spot tracker stoppage time.... Robert Young is claiming to have covered 38 miles on foot through the desert in 80F+ heat solo, self supported, in under 5 hours.

If you look on Power of 10 I noticed a discrepancy in times compared to wiki

For someone born in 60's or 70's data maybe missing on PO10 but 1982 puts you right into the internet era. I also could not frin the info on his tri record sone long course u23 champion. its very vague I looked and could not find the result. Maybe someone who is into that can find it
On the other side i have seen updates from other runners who have run long distances with him -
My gut says 95% he's cheating. Based on his lack of experience and hobby jogger background, he has likely always found it easy to impress and thus fool non-runners. I actually don't even buy the actual record was set honestly. It's just way too easy to cheat so why wouldn't you if no one will ever know? On a track, despite PED rumors which may be extremely difficult to verify, we can rest assured athletes are completing the distance honestly. I don't buy it for a second that this guy is running 60+ miles a day.
There should be at least two easy metrics of proof here. If you were going to take on this challenge, wouldn't you want to make sure you have conclusive proof that you ran the whole thing?
1. Video evidence - easily done with a gopro
2. GPS - a second verifier to prove your pace was reasonable
I'm sorry, a GPS device, witnesses and a support crew are not nearly enough evidence. -

I agree with the GPS. However dane rauschenberg verified his incredible 302 mile journey with Twitter - Timestamps. -
You need to send this info to Runner's World. Seriously, I'd bet they'd run an article on it. They have covered a few of trans 'Murica run attempts over the years.
Great job on this. Absolutely amazing stuff and I think we all know how this will turn out. Deny Deny Deny by the folks in Young's camp (if they ever find out). They will accuse you of having no evidence, when he has evidence he ran it (one single GPS) -
His crew are also using the classic Rossi tactic of threatening to sue the "jealous haters" for asking questions.
From his Facebook:
Dustin here, part of Rob's crew. Rob is running the miles with witnesses and gps and photos and videos along the way. We are filmed for about 5 days of the route by RV crews in addition. We can't really do much more and what we are doing will suffice for Guinness so should suffice for anyone else. If u want to accuse me of lying about what's happening here then that's very serious. It's not a legitimate question as u call it, it's a terrible accusation, accusing 3 of us of lying and being cheats. It's very serious and I will attend to it legally once this is over and done with if necessary. Legally it is defamation of character. Individuals had better have good reason to get into that or a very good lawyer and deep pockets. Either way there can be no proof of cheating or lying because there has been none. Just don't expect to spit in my honour and not have me take offence. The critics are just envious runners who can't bear anyone else to manage what rob is managing because they can't manage it themselves. -

If Runner's World or anyone with the resources went out there right now and started following him 24/7 I would bet anything we would learn of a surprise 'injury' within the first day or two.
OP - have you or anyone else contact RW yet? -

Oh boy - yep, the whole thing really stinks. Check out their standard of proof.. "We can't really do much more and what we are doing" that's complete BS. Attach a gopro to him and film the whole way. -

I'm sorry. Is that wrong?
