Alright, who ya got for next year?
Obviously IGC for individual winner with Grant O'Connor next.
Can anyone challenge Geneseo? RPI loses a lot but had a good freshman class that may develop. NYU and TCNJ return a bunch and should learn from their NCAA experience. Oneonta and SLU lose their important pieces.
I think this next year opens up a window for a new team to break in...
Geneseo
TCNJ
RPI
NYU
Hamilton
OSWEGO
1. Genny loses #2 and #5
2. RPI loses #1 #4, #6, #7
3. TCNJ loses #1 and #3
4. NYU loses #1, #5, #6
5. Oneonta loses #1, #2, #3
6. SLU loses #1, #2, #3

if we're talking about the door being open for a new team to breakthrough vassar will probably make some noise with them only losing one

RPI? More like RIP!
No need to worry about running anymore guys. It's the best time of year. No regimented jpd plans means all are free to go to town. Slug beers and wank it till the springs. Cheers!
If you're not first, you're last- Ricky Bobby.
You know what Utica and Geneseo have in common?
They both didn't win a national championship!
SUNY G had a very respectable team this year... and personally I thought they would win. they had a good attitude and were tough with a knowledgeable coach. they'll get their chance again, though it stinks for the seniors. Look at the last SUNY team to win. Those Cortland guys were 4th-3rd(painfully)-then 1st finally. It takes years of being up close and up front to have a shot at winning. They'll get there's in due time. You really have to have all guys firing on the same day.

I took top-35 since that's all-region. Geneseo with 4 in the top-10 looks scary. Clearly will be untouchable by any team in the region. IGC will be the best low-stick in the country with Burks trying to close the gap. If they can get a 5th guy to be closer to their 3, 4 (maybe the freshman will develop, also who is Matt Jorgensen, is he really a sophomore, and why did he run at nationals?) they could very well try to challenge NCC at natties next year.
RPI with 3 in the top 20 looks good, but their lack of depth will hurt them. O'Connor looks to be on a very good path. Having him will hopefully make up for the lack of a 4,5.
NYU has a strong pack of 3 in the 'teens; will be interesting to see what they do. After next year they will have to do some serious work to stay relevant in the region.
TCNJ with 4 in the top 30 is surprising. Not sure if this season was their miracle peak and whether they'll be able to do the same thing next year, but I won't count them out.
Hamilton has a decent low-stick and then a 2,3 punch of sorts. If they can fill out their team they could have at-large bid potential.
Vassar and Oswego both have 3 in the top 35 near the back end, although I don't think either has a prayer at getting a bid, who knows. Young teams have the potential to develop.
SLU is dead... RIP saints.
As for individuals it will be interesting to see if Jeremy Hernandez will be able to truly make the jump to cross country (doubtful). Based on track times alone he's definitely a potential All-American. Jame Bailey topped off a super-inconsistent season with an All-American performance. Very interested to see how he does in track. IGC will be national champion next year. O'Connor will be all-american again. Hard to make predictions on other possible all-americans, but we'll see how track goes for some of these guys.
That's all folks!
Tier 1- National Contender
IGC with Geneseo is clearly the best team in the region next year and maybe in the country. They got rocked by a historically great NCC, but so did every other team.
Tier 2- At-Large Contenders
TCNJ has tasted success, but will still have a chip on their shoulder after an embarrassing nationals performance. They could have 4 in the top 30 though which should be sufficient.
NYU returns a lot and is historically decent. In past years they've screwed up at critical times which is an obvious risk. They were also truly humiliated at nationals. WTF happened to Jorge? They pretty much return the same group of losers as last season minus their best runner, but maybe their coach can pull something together. Likely to be either 2nd-3rd or 9th-10th not in the middle
Tier 3- Wild Cards
Hamilton also looks good with a low stick and a 2-4 who shouldn't be far back. Need to find a 5th guy. How did they only finish 6 at regionals. did their 7th man get lost in the broccoli field?
Vassar returns everyone and with a frosh as their 1 that guy should be top 10 in the region. With 4 others looking good and young they can contend for an at large bid, but will need to show up all season long.
Tier 4- Foot in the Grave
SLU loses everyone and the mothers except Sidi. Didn't deserve to go to nationals this year. Going to sorely miss Caulfield. Shame generic Joe Smith couldn't pull it together he was an all-american in 2015.
Ithaca has been on the decline for a while and is done without Sean Philipps. Doomed to be irrelevant.
Oneonta had a fairy tale season but graduating their 1-2-3 will make them irrelevant yet again. Maybe in 2 years they can come back.
Wouldnt count out SLU. They are a young team and will be good in the next 3 years. Assuming Sidi can run to his potential, he should be around 24:30 next year, and SLU also had freshman Pat Mortensen and Dadley Ogetti run well over the course of the season. I would expect the two of them to be low 25:00's next year and Logan Mancuso and Jonathan Mitchell will be in the 25:40-50's if they improve. Thats easily a top 4 team in the region right there.
SLU and Oneonta are the ones losing the most from the region with SLU losing 1-2-4 and Oneonta losing 1-2-3, but they are far from in the grave. both have 2 freshman (all low 26 or under) and 3 sophomores in their top 5 so look for big improvement. Sure, they won't be powerhouses, but they can contend if all goes well. Looking at their returners pr's, they have:
SLU:
1. Sidi Abdoulaye 25:11 (SO)
2. Logan Mancuso 26:00 (SO)
3. Dadley Ogetii 26:08 (FR)
4. Patrick Mortensen 26:09 (FR)
5. Jonathan Mitchell 26:15 (SO)
Oneonta:
1. Ryan Brennan 25:32 (SO)
2. Blake Dellabough 25:39 (FR)
3. Devin Akerley 25:51 (SO)
4. Aidan Smith 26:02 (FR)
5. Chad Dunham 26:25 (SO)
Rumor has it that Amherst's top 5 has agreed to transfer to a historically top 5 team in the region 👀
Geneseo is a lock to win the region, but that #2 spot is up in the air. I can genuinely see RPI, NYU, TCNJ, SLU, and Rowan all competing for the 2nd spot and at large bid/'s. I think its realistic to say that we are only going to get one or two at large bid this year.
RPI looks strong with both O'Conners but after that they aren't very deep. NYU returns a solid bunch but aren't too deep. SLU isn't in the grave like you say and they will have a young team with a very good pack of runners in the mid to low 25's. Rowan and TCNJ return a bunch so they will be decent. Individual race could be interesting as Otto from RIT, and Grant O'Conner could challenge IGC for the W at regionals.
