Does anyone live and run in Columbia Maryland? We may be moving there this summer and I would be interested to find out how decent the area is for runners?

Anyone?
I've ran a couple races there. Howard County is pretty hilly in parts. Check out the Howard Country Striders web page. They probably have route cue sheets.

Both G-town and Baltimore aren't too far away. Columbia as an area is very nice. Depending on what part of Columbia you live in, you may be close to Patapsco State Park. There are miles and miles of trails there. It's closer to Baltimore.
Patapsco state park is money...also rockburn state park which is right next to patapsco in howard county is great too
I used to live there and found the running very good. There are lots of trails and Centennial Park is a nice place to run. There are some good hills behind the park to if you do hill repeats. Only potential problem with the trails is that they are interconnected and not marked very well. That, combined with the unique layout of the town makes it easy to get lost, at least that's what happened to me when I first got there.
Howard County Striders are a decent club.
Thanks. I can see from looking at the Elementary school ratings that there are good and not so good parts to Columbia. I need to run at 0500 so the place has to be safe.
I lived in Laurel for eight months. I'm pretty much a receational runner now, but here are some of the places where I ran:
-Patapsco: A little bit of a drive, but provides a lot of trails.
-Centennial Park: Contains paved trails around a lake.
-Savage Park (off of Vollmerhausen Rd. in Laurel): There are some decent trails on the South end. If you run North for 1.5 miles, you'll get to a paved bike path which goes under Rt. 32 and Broken Land Pkwy to Lake Elkhorn. If you run around the lake and back, the total distance is ten miles or so.
-There's a high school (Highland I think) past Scagssville, off of Rt. 216. I'm sure there are some closer places to do intervals, but they had a nice rubber track.
Even in the "not so good" parts, you're not gonna get rolled by running down the street/sidewalk. Don't worry about that, it never crossed my mind and I ran around just about every part of that town.
I live in Rockville, MD, which I would rate as decent or better for running.
