Like many/most guys, I used to be a really huuuuge sports fan. I still follow most sports on some level (am aware of who's doing what), but am not a hard-core spectator-type fan of any sport anymore (track is obviously the main exception, but even that......). Basically, I grew up. To spend hours and hours every week watching spoiled rich men battle each other for the glory of cities they don't live in (often) and don't care much about (most of the time), is pretty absurd when you think about it. And this is exactly what hard-core fans do. It's pretty insane when you think about it. I will watch the playoffs of most sports, because there is some real excitement in those games at least. But to live and die with ups and downs of your "home" team.......that's sad(though its fun to "root" for the home team. Yes, I am a warm weather fan). And to spend huge chunks of your free time glued to the toob watching sports......that's even sadder.
If I was forced to spend whole afternoons watching sports on TV on gorgeous(weather-wise) sunday afternoons(like so many guys do), when I could be outside enjoying myself (in countless ways, like PARTICIPATING in a sport), I'd shoot myself. Maybe when I was in college (but not even then)......
It's funny, but I really and truly forgot that the hockey season was not happening. BIG LOSS there..........not.
And golf......jesusf***inchrist don't get me started on golf. Sad corporate clones (who are ususally part of at least 3 or more "fantasy" leagues at a time.......how lame is THAT??? Personally my fantasies are not about pro athletes putting up big #'s in meaningless regular season games) actually have OFFICE POOLS on who will do the best in the Ryder cup or the Masters. All I can say is........wow.
Football season is over. I don't cheer that fact, but nor do I really care.
But I AM glad the Pats won.
