Has anyone ever had something called sesamoiditis? It involves some bone near the big toe. If anyone knows any treatment suggestions or the probablility of a stress fracture or any info at all, it would be appreciated.

It involves the small pea sized bone(s) under your big toe. It could be that the tendon that holds the sesamoid in place is simply inflamed. A stress fracture is almost impossible to diagnose unless you have pre-existing X-rays of your feet. Some people have one sesamoid, while others have what appears to be 2 in the same location, and just because you have 2 in one foot doesn't mean that you have 2 in the other.
You can try to rest it a bit and wear a stiff soled shoe to run in, and to do your normal day to day activities. I had this problem in HS. The cure was to rest it and to wear what looked like a canvas shoe with a "sole" made out of plywood.
yeah i have it right now. it is another name for a bunion (spelling). i work at a dr office and they gave me a pad to put right behind the bone (kind of toward the front of the arch but not quite to the part that hurts). unfortunatly the pad type things that i have are too weird for me to run with so i just deal with it.
i feel your pain. ive had it since xc season and i couldnt wear a spike in that spot but it still killed every time i hit a rock. im now training to for a hald marathon with it so you can run. it wont kill you but it might hurt.
surgery requires breaking the bone then puting pins in it to straighten it out. this all means that u wont even be able to walk right after a month let alone run. for me at least it isnt worth it.
You are mistaken the sesamoids aren't big enough to put in a pin, and it isn't the same thing as a bunion. This is a bunion -http://www.foottalk.com/bunpict.htmSesamoids are under the big toe.
thanks for the help CO and friends.
Hey hey!
I had this in high school pretty bad. Dont believe all the crap about bunion...turf toe, etc. I actually had a guy make orthotics for me at the time.... and when he did... he just cut a spot out of the front where the sesmoids would be.
Like this: (i hope this looks right when posted)

It had a rigid front to it. Anyways... it wasnt crazy scientific... but it did take the pressure off the area and solve the problem. I heard everything from cortizone shots to surgery. Luckily I had the best coach in N.America who told me not to do either. I backed off for 1-2 weeks. And then ran with this new orthodic (by the way it was a real orthodic... but maybe u could get a spenco or rigid insole and do the same).
May be weird.... but I thought I would share how I cured the problem.
hahahaha it didnt work....
darn! Basically it was a normal front sole.... but with the area around the sesmoids cut out so they didnt impact the ground as much. Sorry!
Sweet Greek: I'll try to do something along those lines. Anyone else got something?
ive battled with my sesomoids since may... It sucks!! and i have done everything but have them removed... that may be the next step
