Is it just me, or did everyone else expect different content from a thread that contained the words hi-school, girl, college and gulp?

Pre-Officer, do you even have a clue. "Div. III is basically the same premise as a high school team." are you kidding. The sad thing is that there are alot of Div. I programs that are worse than Div. III. I run for a Div. III school in Ohio, and other than maybe other than OSU, Kent, and Akron. The rest of the Div. I and II can't hold a candle to most of the Div. III's in the state. Our program is more of a Div. I based program than most of the MAC or Conference USA schools. So I wouldn't say that it is the same premise as High School. Our school does make cuts and has times you have to post to be able to run in meets.
I don't think he was talking about just one state. Overall, the standards in d3 are a lot lower than d1.
college.....gulp - EXACTLY!
Check out Doane College in Nebraska.
Or maybe you'd like to join the Harvard Horde? I've never seen a team sweep the last 10spots at every race like they can...certainly no cuts there.
you live in MN and are looking at DIII schools? you should just head over to WI and go to school for something like 35 cents a semester. after all, the WIAC schools are DII institutions hiding in DIII so they can rack up the championships in track and XC. i mean, if academics aren't that important to you that would be a great fit. i went to school at osh-kosh and had a class in which i sat next to a rock. the rock passed all academic requirements and actually graduated with a 3.16. most of the people at the school aren't real bright so you could walk around feeling like a mensa member. do you have a 780 on your SAT, get over to a WIAC school.
Check out
. They have a section on X-C and track that covers most of the MIAC and some of the WIAC stuff. That should give you an idea of what kind of times the local women are running in college.
But I agree with others. If you go out for the X-C or track teams at the D3 level, you're on it. How competitive you want to be is up to you.
Journalist, I'm a high school coach in the South and I have a girl on my team that ran just over 19:00 5k in cross. She didn't run last summer and had just turned 16 two months before the 19. What school is your wife coaching?

Flome is right, and the same is true for many Div. 1 & 2 schools as well. Anyone can run.
There are smaller schools down here in the South who recruit 22:00 5K women, and offer them money.
My wife coaches a Div. 2 school and she's giving scholarships to such ladies, hoping to turn them into a bunch of sub-20s in a few years.
This isn't rare hereabouts.

Well, I wasn't going to mention it, but now that you've broached the subject... My advice is that college or not, one should never *have* to swallow. Women control their own destinies nowadays.
