People are making too much of DIII by throwing out times and so on.
Here's the real deal on DIII:
If you can run, you're on the team. That is true for just about every DIII team in the country. There might be a running powerhouse or two that might not let you on, but if you're willing to run, you're on.
There were women on the team when I was in college who couldn't run a 22 minute 5k to save their lives. Hell, we had a couple guys on my team who couldn't run 22 minutes, and I'm not kidding.
If you're not terribly fast or terribly talented, you can run DIII. That's not to say that some talented runners don't run DIII, but you don't have to be talented to run there.
