The dude is just tops. Grew up in Harlem, lectured on physics by age 15, top class wrestler and ladies man, recruited by Carl Sagan at Cornell, Harvard/Columbia grad, consultant for countless organizations and just overall genius/badass.

Yeh, I saw him speak once. He was extremely interesting, entertaining and funny. He clearly is an extrovert. If there was no time limit to the lecture, he probably would have kept talking until the last person left.
I liked what he did with Cosmos and I also sometimes listen to his blog. I haven't read any of his many books, but they are on my reading list.
We need more people like him who promote science in this country. We are becoming science illiterate.

He grew up in the Bronx, not Harlem. Also, part of that time was spent in Riverdale - quite cushy surroundings. One parent was a gerontologist and the other was a sociologist, so he was not exactly dodging crack addicts on his way home or walking 2 miles to the public library to read books. But I agree, he is an impressive individual even if he did not grow up with the odds stacked against him.
He went to two of the most exclusive public school in the US.

NDT gives them a science 'nerd' to look up to and admire.
There is nothing nerdy about him. Being a nerd has nothing to do with science or liking science.

Actually he's a phony who talks about science, but doesn't actually do any. Being a member of a lot of organizations isn't really an accomplishment. White people love to make public displays of themselves praising him--what the OP really means to say is "LOOK HOW NOT RACIST I AM!" When was the last time this guy actually made any discoveries or published a paper on physics?
He does not do any science because that's not his role, he talks and writes about science because that's what he is paid to do. There is a role for guys in the lab, but having someone who can make science understandable and interesting to the average person is valuable. His success in not in discovering or originating anything, he is somewhat of a science celebrity for doing what he does. As a child, I was a big fan of Carl Sagan, Sagan made astronomy cool; I see NDT doing the same thing. Are you critical of scientist who choose to teach, manage projects, grant procurement specialist -or do you think the only role is to make discoveries or published a papers? And, do you really think any White person you likes and respects him is "LOOK HOW NOT RACIST I AM!"? Do you really believe that?
The editors sympathetic to Tyson have not included all the information on Tyson. See:
Tyson eventually admitted his account of Bush\\\\\\\'s 9-11 speech was false.
A lot of inaccurate info has crept into Tyson\\\\\\\'s presentations. Everything he says should be taken with a grain of salt.
