No worries, according to his sweat profile he just crushed a sprint workout. It included 3x(200,150,100) and the 200s were at 24, 17 for the 150s and 11 high for the 100s. He will be fine by the trials

40.50 + 1/3(40.50) = 40.50 + 13.50 = 54.00 = 1:48 pace

Even though I want to strangle you sometimes, I enjoy your comments like this. Well done.
Yes as fo' mesef govnor in me late 40s I runned 9-10 x 400s on :45 rests in mid to high 59 on several occasions, and a few years back I avg'd an easy 2:29 on 45 seconds rest at 9500' in AZ a few days before runnin' a 15:55 (definitely should have broken the world master's record). So Nick has a long way ta go ya see, but he'll get there me mateys, don' cha worri ya fool haids none.
I regards Nick Symmonds as rather useful don't cha no.
Averaging over all the repetitions is non sense in this case. The first rep was warm up, the rest was the real work out

Lol OK another one.
We can ignore the first rep if you like. The average pace of the rest is 1:47.5.
And the session which is now 4x300m isn't even a good predictor of 800m pace. Too few reps.

Danny is not his coach and deserves no credit or blame. I agree with your selfie comment. This group will produce zero Olympians. I believe the word you were searching for is inexperienced.

Spot on. Same trash talk about Nick last season before nationals, and then he won the damn thing. He's a nut, but don't count him out.

Its on his 'sweat' profile. He also says he was 'very disappointed' with the work out.
There is a more recent work out of 8x800 off 2 mins. in 2.22-2.35. I can safely say that for a 3.34 runner, that is terrible.
I've done similar workouts and I'm running 16 flat for 5k. Yikes

Exactly my point. And in fact when you see that he had a 39 flat in there, you could see that he was really not that far off with his speed. One crap workout, by his standards, and then the next workout is a keeper. When you've been doing a lot of base work, sometimes there is very little speed evident at the beginning of the first speed workout, and then there is a precipitous drop even within the same workout or a week later. I had five weeks of base at 16 miles per day before doing ten quarters on 200 jog at the end of another sixteen mile day on Tuesday and I started out on the first three quarters a full ten seconds slower than my last quarter. The speed comes around very quickly when you have the base. The challenge then is to be able to hold something closer to that with shorter rests--his 8x800s indicate that he really needs work on that part.
