He can run 3:48i right now. World Indoor Championships are going to be interesting.

Yeah, and what's a measly 5 seconds anyways? WR?!?! Not even close!

... 3:48.45 is the INDOOR WR, which is what the OP was referring to. In which case, I agree that Centro has a shot at it.

He's two secinds off the WR for the indoor mile Lets say he ran 3:28 outdoors for 1500 meters... would you say he has a shot at beating el guerrouj's WR outdoor 1500 meters? BS!!

1. You can't write.
2. He ran his 3:50 off 1:58, 1:52 splits, while under the weather. Yes, he can break the indoor world record. I seriously doubt he will, however.

If he comes through in 1:55.5ish he has a real shot. Certainly he can run 3:49.0 right now. C'mon Salazar, get something organized.
Big Matt and Mathew are the fastest Father son milers ever.

On another note, Centro, Rupp & Wheating went 1,2,3 at Pac 10's one year in the 1500. They are now all about 3:50 for the mile. Andy Powell has worked with loads of really fast guys.
...for a world record that nobody cares about.
I agree that he looks like a good bet for a medal in Portland.

He ran a 6 second negative split in a mile, that ought to be worth at least the two seconds it would take to get him the WR.
Center witz is a loser i swear this guy cannot run tonthe refrigerator if he wanted a beer. But i can caise im drunk. Yeezy3 kanye west!!!!!!!! Yeeeeeehhhhh!!! Get outtta debt brotha!!!!!!! I'm got yo back!!!!!!!

Loose definition of "now."
Probably Centro could break the record, or come close in a properly paced race based on current form. Don't see that happening in the next few weeks, and why bother as it's all about indoor world champs just now?
So a better question is, can Centro nab gold indoors over Iguider and Souleiman? All three have shown they have the form for a solid run at gold this year. And so what if Souleiman just lost a 1500 to Iguider? He'll be ready to jam at worlds.
The indoor mile WR has been WEAK, is WEAK, and always will be WEAK. Few runners seriously make multiple attempts at the peak of their ability the way the outdoor 1500 (or even mile) are attacked.
That is the only reason a PR B-lister like Centro could be in a conversation about a WR (same way Mo got his indoor 3000 "WR" in the often-globally-contested indoor two mile which isn't even a real WR). With all the fast races he's lost, he remains a 3:30 1500 guy, 4.4 seconds off the WR. By definition, if you are talking Centro and WR, you are talking about a soft "WR."
But yes, if Rupp can run 3:50 with Salazar talking WR, an actual miler from the same stable should be able to break it. If he goes for it, though, the north Africans will be under by more and we'll start to see where that time should really be (3:46).
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE "INDOOR MILE WORLD RECORD."
Probably the most annoying of all Letsrun armchair coaching habits. Runner ran this time under these conditions therefore is clearly able to run that time.Centro ran 3:50.63. So right now certainly he can run 3:50.63. Faster 1/2 mile split, more even pacing, different track, less hair gel, lighter shoelaces--we can't actually infer anything about how these would affect his performance. Had he fallen and run 3:50 I think it would be safe to say he'd be able to run faster. But that's about the only way you can speculate someone is in shape to run a time faster than that which he just ran.
