Crazy. Negative split that one as well.
He looked as if he was fading but stayed strong. Maybe it is just his awkward form that makes him look like he i tired.
that last lap he looked trashed
the arrogance of it all
...sure...why not...
He made two quick spurts to pass Awad and another guy in the first 1/3 of the race which I thought was a mistake. I think that might have cost him an even better time when he let a little gap develop near the end. I am sure he'll watch the game tape and realize this as well.
*is
Went 1:01, 2 flat, 3 flat, 3:29, 3:58.7
8 under 4 in the B mile-- yes this race is where he belonged-
He is time trialing, (very well) be not really racing
A distinction without a difference
And that's despite lingering effects of illness...a hacking cough at times...major sleep interruption...some unsatisfactory workouts...pressure we mere mortals can't fathom. So damn impressive!
Tinman will say -- rightfully so, I'd guess (I won't doubt him) -- that Hunter is in far better shape than "only" a 3:57.81.
OK, detractors, start to kick in with your silly "age cheating" broken-record griping. We need a good laugh, though we're already in a great mood after that mile result.

Not racing? Did you watch the race just now? He raced his a*s off in that last 400m. He was completely spent and would have had no reason to go were it not for the guys in front of him.

Just think how he would be with a real coach that didn't rebrand workouts and call them his own.
He should go for Cheserek's indoor 2 mile record of 8:39.

He could probably do it at indoor nationals if he's running there. He doesn't need an elite field to do it.
I had a good long post-race chat with Hunter. He was pleased to have PRd but said he's still sick and only once put on his spikes since his last mile race. He said because of the illness and lack of speed work, he doesn't feel smooth yet. If healthy, he thinks he could run 3:55-6.
When asked if he could run 3:53, he said he didn't think so as he doens't view himself as a miler. He said you need 146-7 800 speed to do that and need to be a true miler. That being said, he didn't rule out running the Bowerman mile outdoors. He said he definitely wants to run at the Pre Classic in some fashion as he wants to race at Hayward.
In terms of the immediate future, he'll run two relays with his team at indoor HS nationals and then have a long training block and may open up at Penn Relays. He also said he hopes to break 1:50 outdoors racing a local VA guy who just ran 2:25 in the 1k.
