Quote: ".....WHO CARES HOW LONG IT TAKES SOMEBODY TO FINISH THE FUCKIN' RACE......."
Here's a thought for you.......how is it a RACE when it takes 90 FUCKIN' MINUTES TO COMPLETE 5K????. Who/what are these people RACING? The paint drying on their newly painted living room walls? The f***ing GRASS growing in their yard????? Their finger nails growing????
How about we stage a separate event called the "FAT ASS WADDLE" and charge them $100 apiece?
As far as prize money is concerned.....hmmmm, weren't these "races" sponsored by a few tiny, poor companies named:
"HP" - a technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses and institutions globally. The company's offerings span IT infrastructure, personal computing and access devices, global services and imaging and printing. For the four fiscal quarters ended July 31, 2004, HP revenue totaled $78.4 BILLION.
"Aramco Services Company" - a wholly owned subsidiary of the SAUDIi ARABIAN OIL COMPANY (Saudi Aramco). It provides a wide range of services to Saudi Aramco, including engineering quality assurance, project management, procurement and logistics, recruiting and career development, information technology, and marine vessel services. Aramco Services Company is also actively working with several renowned U.S. research companies to help safeguard the environment. Together, company engineers and research scientists are discovering breakthrough micro-technologies to produce cleaner petroleum fuels and develop more efficient engines to use these fuels.
Not to mention: H.E.B., New Balance, Gatorade, Continental Airlines, etc etc.
These "sponsors" long ago figured out how to get a lot of free publicity for CHEAP. The road racing / track & field community have been pussies for decades and plenty of non-runners have taken advantage of them. Just look at all the "charity" and "for cause" races there are today in the USA. And then take a look at how many runners can make a living off of their sport.
Don't give me that shit about prize money coming from the FAT ASSES. If the race directors can't get enough cash from an oil company and a mega-billion dollar technology company that is headquartered donw the street then shame on them. It's not like they are hitting up the mom & pop corner store for sponsorships here.
