Some of you guys need to pull your heads out of your butts... 13:43 indoors is pretty darn good.

I believe this is a PR for Slattery Indoors or out.
McGrath still has not approached his 4:05 HS mark, two years later. He has huge talent. 1:48 and 4:05 HS marks.
Why the hell are Scott Wall and Stephen Oliver in the NOP?!?!?!
13:43 in a low key indoor race bodes very well. Good stuff.
I am always skeptical when people race really well at Washington, Kentucky, or ND and people talk about how they will have a great outdoor seeason. 300 meter tracks with no wind and perfect temps offer a better race environment than most outdoor meets.
no, he's run 13:42

I ran against McGrath last august and he ran 3:43.low.
Why the hell are Scott Wall and Stephen Oliver in the NOP?!?!?!
That is a very good question. Wall just doesnt have the talent/balls to be a running for nike.
A couple of things. First of all Scott and Stephen are apart of the project by name only, they do not have Nike contracts. Stephen is in his senior year of high school at Central Catholic, and Wall graduated last year with Galen Rupp. They are both very talented, and if you noticed in some of the meets Galen did last year where he would have been unattached, they put Oregon Project by his name. They work out with everyone else, as does McGrath and Rupp. None of them have signed Nike contracts yet, but they are apart of the team because Alberto wants them there.
McGrath has been running well since High school. University of Oregon didnt work out for him because their 800 trainers are a waste. They had him doing stuff that was not even nearly as rigorous as he had done to get to the 1:48 in HS, and then he gets out of there, and back to what he was used to, and he dropped almost a full second from his HS 800 time. 1:47.62, from 1:48.56, and then he also ran a 4:06 mile at the race that was setup with Galen Rupp and Shadrack Kiptoo in Portland, after just a few months of being back in portland.
I am a big Mike McGrath fan, so I am glad that he did well in Washington. I doubt he should be in top shape in January. Under then guidance of Bob Williams and Cook in Portland, I am confident that Mike will be running at or better than his previous best times by summer.
In addition to that, maybe you are implying Goucher shouldn't be racing the 5K because he'd be better at 10K or some other longer distance. Maybe he will be racing 10K later on, but he just got in that 5K as a test of his fitness right now. Who knows what the spring and summer will hold for Goucher? Even if he does stick with the 5K, I wish him the best and can see him potentially running well.
Unless you have something constructive to say, don't bother.
Thanks for the clarification on Wall and Oliver.
Umm hello? Goucher suffers from depression. Insidious illness that ruins people's lives & relationships, etc. etc. Takes years (if ever) to really learn how to live with it. It sux!!!
so will you be all angry with him if he takes prozac for his depression then?
I guess they weren't taking this race too seriously, probably just a little tune-up, I'm sure they'll run much faster in the spring. Alan Webb ran a 13:46 last year in the Penn Relays. He ran a very fast last lap. I bet Alan could beat these guys.

It's sad that Goucher still runs the 5000 like he has a future in it.
Don't know what he is planning for the future, but any idiot should know that marathoners, 10k'ers, Steeplers, XC specialists, and even milers run the 5k, especially indoors as part of their regular racing program.
Running the indoor 5k (and even the 3k) makes perfect sense for someone getting ready for the XC Trials (I don't know if he IS of he ISN'T, but it makes sense).
I should remind you that Goucher is the only male who ever won the XC Trials in the short course AND long course.
And I should also remind you that if someone was planning on running the 10k (which you seem to imply he ought to be) that the 5k is nearly the same event. Everyone who is anyone does equally well in both.
I should also explain to you that if you wanted to run longer than 5k indoors, you couldn't, at least not at this meet.
UW indoor facility is 307m long, has great surface (mondo), isn't banked and there is a perfect climate for running.
I had ran on that track several times, PR'ed at every single attempt and never came close to those PRs after that (indoors). 13:43 on that track is in my book about 14min flat otdoors. Still a great run from Gouch. Way to go!
Your an idiot

YOU'RE an idiot (correct spelling). And you are.
The previous poster was just trying to pass on feedback about how quick of a track the University of Washington has in Seattle. I've heard similar things quite recently from others.
