My wife and I had our daughter's Parent-Teacher conference last week and everything is going well. Nothing but good news and a particularly pleasant thing to hear was that our daughter (3rd Grade) is doing extremely well in math.
So a week goes by and we get an email from her teacher explaining that our daughter is going to be joining a few other kids at her school in a more challenging math program that is designed to prepare them for AP and College level courses. My daughter goes to a private school and the school partners with a well-known university. Yada, yada, yada...
So I ask my daughter about it and she kind of explains that "all kids learn differently" and "she might have an easier time learning math in a smaller group." Basically, she thinks that she is being sent out because she is not doing well. So my wife calls her teacher and the teacher basically says that they do not want to put too much pressure on the kids chosen for the program.
I understand that, but I also don't want my daughter to mistakenly feel like she has a problem with a subject in which she is doing well. Do I tell her that she is - currently - gifted in math or do I just leave it alone?
