1. BYU EYESTONE - Has dominated NCAA last 15 years.
2. OREGON JERRY - Top guys on US teams and of course Jager.
3. COLORADO WETMORE - Hasn't had much several years, but over last 20 years with Nelson, Slattery, etc.
Thoughts? Others?

isnt the steeplechase just for the guys who cant make it in the 5k?
The Montana state and eastern Kentucky coaches have had a lot of top Steelers recently
Historically I would add Weber State as a steeple friendly program. They may not have the top steeplers but always manage to get regional qualifiers. Besides Marzecich ND has a number of steeplers, esp. on the women's side.
Tell that to the Kenyans, where the steeple is honored.
While I don't disagree about Notre Dame, they always get a top recruiting class. It's not difficult to turn a top recruit - especially a female - into a regional qualifier in the least deep distance event. Somewhat tougher for males but not very: you only need 8:53 at maximum
Brad Wick, University of Minnesota. Alec Basten. Matt Wilkinson. Just had a freshman run 8:50 & others on the team sub 9.

It's hard to judge when some coaches know very little about the steeplechase but recruit top international steeplechasers to win. Other coaches know a ton and create very good steeplechasers out of nothing but will never compete with the top international imports.

If you’re talking about Wilkinson you should give more credit to Dave Ricks at Carleton. He got him to 8:44 at a D3 program.
If we’re mentioning sub 9, UW-La Crosse & Wartburg coaches should be mentioned here. Maybe even Pomona-Pitzer, Central College, or St. Olaf.
Markezich was a 10:59 3200 girl in high school, hardly a top recruit. Sparks developed her well in Steeple and across all seasons. Since Sparks took over as head coach, ND has had great Steeplers and now across Women's and Men's teams with Singleton and Seitzer....

BYU Diljeet Taylor - Easily the best.

Yeah, it seems the biggest challenge would be to get the best 1500/5000m to want to run it. Are there examples of guys with talent at those distances that failed miserably in the steeple? Both Keino and Bayi medaled late in their careers in the steeple.

Has one guy to Regionals this year and no women.

A long shot but she could have two on the Olympic team. They were 3rd and 8th last year at USAs. Halladay-Lowry won Bryan Clay with a 9:26 (5sec PR) and won Payton Jordan over Wayment. She is redshirting to focus on the trials.
LYLE WEESE. 6 guys under 9 minutes this season alone at Montana State, 4 of them under 8:40. Coached Duncan Hamilton last year

Was thinking the gophs have recently had a good amount of success in the steeple even during a period where the distance program as a whole has been down... Obsa Ali was national champ as well?
Lyle Weese at Montana State. Hard to keep track of all the guys that no other school seriously recruited that he has coached to 8:2x. Look out also for the leading edge from the women’s team. I think they’ll be doing the same thing in 2 years.
Agree that Weber was in the mix for a long time, and BYU for sure.
From a fitness point of view, the training will be identical to that for 15/5. Is the technical part that complicated or does it come down to natural athleticism?
Parker Valby post 5k interview... Worst of all time? Are Parker Valby interviews always cringe?
