Running London in April is a bad plan for anyone with a serious interest in winning gold in the Olympic Marathon.
Yeah two weeks is not enough time.
Too bad they don't have a few months in between.

There is no way bekele is GOAT until he does something big at the marathon. Hailes range and longevity still trumps bekele
Ugh maybe not longevity, but Bekele's range is as good or better than Geb's.

Negative
Affirmative!

Bekele had the great XC career (not an Olympic sport).
It not being an Olympic event is pretty irrelevant.

Gebrselassie
1500 - 3:31.76
marathon - 2:03:59
Bekele
1500 - 3:32.35
marathon - 2:05:04
I agree he outkicked Farah, who is one of the fastest finishers in the world, when he was well out of his prime

Thanks for the support. Some of these posters don't understand.
Geb ran both of those times (at least the marathon) with rabbits. Bekele ran the 1500 time while racing. The first lap was something ridiculous like 53 or 54 seconds. If rabbitted, he would have run faster than Geb's time.
Bekele ran the 2:05 as a DEBUT and SOLO. How fast was Geb's debut marathon? How many did it take for him to get to 2:03:59?
Whatever differences in their times are negligible. Even without any explanation, half a second difference in the 1500m is negligible.
Range is one aspect of it.
For me, I place high importance on WR's, Olympic Medals, WC medals, XC medals and multiple wins at championship events.
Who the best? Easy question pour moi.
Gebresellasie broke 27 world records
1500m world title
Marathon world record
Bek:
Holds WR at 5k
Holds WR at 10k
11 world XC gold medals
3 olympic gold medals
5 WC gold medals
World indoor gold medal
5k/10k double gold 2008 olympics
5k/10k double gold 2009 WC
What impresses me most about Haile G is the fact he broke so many world records and that he stepped up to marathon and did it but I still think Kenny's record speaks for itself.
Has made me think though....maybe not as cut and dried as I first thought but would still have to give the nod to Kenny.
Its one of those two though.

Geb still has an edge over Kenny, though if Kenny gets the WR in the marathon, they will be roughly equal on all the key WRs (though Geb still has more WRs broken overall).
No matter what Kenny does, however, Geb still wins when it comes to likeability. Great personality and attitude.

Good post, ventolin. Your first good one. Hopefully the trend continues.
Bekele would need Kipchoge's insoles to fall all the way out to have any chance of beating him.
Kipchoge runs 2:05 so easily he could just keep going and run a sub 2:30 50k. He doesn't even get tired.
Saw the article today as the mens and women's elite fields released. If he does well he will be on potentially his 4th olympic team. If he wins in rio, GOAT? Thoughts?

27 is a lot of records. How many still stand? What's the longest time frame any of them stood?
Bekele's 5000m WR, a race all the top guys run every year, is 12 years old.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
