5:55? Wouldn't be surprised if slower. I wouldn't expect anything crazy fast.
I'll assume that's sixth grade, not first grade.
I was a year younger than others in my grade, and my mile time in 7th grade (having been running since 3rd grade) was 6:04.
So I'll say Ashton Eaton ran 5:09.
Elementary school, I say like 6:10
Guessed and just looked it up- Guessed within a second of the time he actually ran. Obviously i won't say the time.
My first timed mile in 6th grade was 6:29 and I remember a future 4:02 kid beat me in 5:50, so I'll guess Ashton around 5:50.

Eaton: "It was in elementary school when we were asked to do a timed mile. The only guidance we had from the PE teacher was that we had to complete it within 15 minutes.
For some reason, in my mind, I wanted to run it as fast as I could so I asked mum to buy me spikes, a jersey and shorts, and I ran the timed mile as hard as I could. I was timed at **"

You should have been a WR holder. Did you ever try the decathlon? Eaton ran 6:30 according to this article.
http://www.iaaf.org/news/series/ashton-eaton-decathlon-usaOf course, it's a little suspicious that he ran an even number like that. Was the course certified? Was their drug testing?

Just goes to show that even small exhibitions of drive and talent should be encouraged.
What's awesome is that he made mom get him spikes and kit for this. My guess is that his first 200 was sub-30 and his 400 was around 63
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
