I am the voice of deflation!
I thought I was really hip (cool) when I was 29. In truth, I was not. I was a running/comix geek (still am). I was sort of fast, and was the toast of the comix world. But I was also suffering from low self esteem and doing lots of dumb stuff. I would have argued to the death that I was crazy cool.
Around 42, it started to dawn on me that I was not, nor ever had been, cool.
These days, I'm very comfortable with myself, and not worried about being hip/cool at all. Feels good to let go!
Have a nice run today.
Probably somewhere in Brooklyn. It gives you a hip factor but also very close to Manhattan.
In Manhattan I'd say anywhere in the village, Harlem, or downtown areas.
I live in Gramercy Park. I feel quite cool.
The answer is: Philadelphia.
NYC is so 10 years ago.
Dyker Heights, aight.
"139th and motherf*ckin' Lenox"
Dyker Heights
Sunset Park. Red Hook. Gowanus. Bed Stuy. Stuy Heights. Crown Heights. Bushwick. Ridgewood. Sunnyside. Rockaways. Chinatown. Harlem. Port Morris. Mott Haven.
You can't go there and then say you're from there.

* anywhere in the Bronx but Riverdale;
* anywhere in Brooklyn but Brooklyn Heights, whoever said Mill Basin is informed enough to joke about it tho' Flatlands, New Lots, Canarsie, Brownsville, East New York are the realest answers;
* anywhere in Manhattan above 125th Street;
* anywhere in Queens but a Long Island City ersatz 'luxury' condo
* anywhere in Staten Island but a politician's house, they're all scum even by the low low low standards of NYC

Gravesend > Mill Basin
Hoboken
Brooklyn may be "cool," but if you live in a lot of the neighborhoods mentioned here, you're going to spend a lot of time on the subway, day and night
