Who will win NXN?
Many people think Austin is avoiding main competition by going to NXN instead of Footlocker, where he'd face Hunter and Rocha... but I think NXN will be a walk in the park like many are expecting.
Utah's Casey Clinger will dominate. He is just a junior but last year as a sophomore he posted (AT ALTITUDE) 4:12 and 9:00!!!
He is also undefeated this season and ran the fastest Utah State meet time of all team, beating Luke Puskedra AND Ben Saarel AND Conner Mantz... as a junior!
He will destroy
AUSTIN TAMAGNO will be upset by CASEY CLINGER

Agreed...
Both are undefeated but Clinger has beaten top ranked athletes... Tamagno hasn't even run against other ranked guys -
I agree Casey may win NXN. He is also a very smart runner. Hold off on the state times though. We all measured the NEW state course after the races. It is short 34 yards of a 3 mile. That makes it short of the old course by at least 44 yards, and it is a faster and easier course now. We figure 8 or 9 seconds. Like you say he is a Junior! Still Casey is an animal and so is Handley and a few others. They better be very careful at NXN because Casey will be there and coming with that last 200 to go. I do like the new state course though. It looks like a state course, safer and just better ground.

Maybe Clinger will win. Maybe Tamagno will. Maybe someone else will.
4:12 and 9:00 is great as a sophomore, obviously, but what altitude was it at?
Times only mean so much. Tamagno went 4:09 as a freshman in 100 degree weather. -
I was there.... wrote:

He ran that at BYU, at 4500ft with wind and pouring rain the day of state. -
I think Clinger is the most underrated athlete in the country... only #7? How is he not in the top 5?
-
Tamango ran 1:52, 3:46, and 8:52 last year... No one is destroying him

Jon Davis has got this on lockdown. The dude ran 9:05 solo on a hot af day.. beating 2nd place by 30 seconds. He also ran 4:15 later beating the next guy by 8 seconds. And then he ran 13:59 this year at Detweiller. Not even someone like Jesse Reiser who got 6th last year (8th at Footlocker) did that.

I thought NXN was about the team competition.

Never broke 1:57, 4:10, or 9:05.... 13:59 was on a 3 mile course that was pretty fast (I think 5 other kids went sub 14:30 that day)... Nope -
Ike Umlotz is beating all these fools. Dude is dope AF
-
Everyone is saying this dude and that dude are blah blah af... But Clinger goes to AF! It's a sign.

Davis went 13:59 in the smallest school division in IL with nobody within 45 seconds of him. He has run a 4:11 mile, converts to 4:09.something 1600. Rarely has the opportunity to race against worthy competitors but when he does, he wins. Won both FLMW and NXNMW. He will challenge -

Not saying he's not solid but Tamango is pretty close to a 4:01 1600 with a 3:46 1500. And the 13:59 is impressive, worth a 14:40 5k or so solo. I'm sure he will challenge Tomango, but op is saying he will destroy... Not so much -
this is Ben petrella's year. Casey can have next year

Greetings to all you X-C fans out there and good luck to all the fast boys and girls running Saturday. I have not had the privilege to watch all the Top 5-10 favorites run in person. But, I have seen Jon Davis on more than one occasion. He is underestimated because he is from a small school in east central Illinois. And, he had an injury issue last spring and did not run as fast track times as his contemporaries did... nor was he in many races that had good fields like the others. I do know this. He is strong. He is fast. He has good poise and confidence mentally as he showed in 2 regular season races against large school Illinois runners and then at NXN Midwest and FL Midwest against good fields where he won. He also has guts as I watched him take a shot at my course record solo but came up short 9-10 seconds but certainly proved his character! What really impressed me was not his time of 13:59-14:00 but his last 800 in 2:06 by himself... up a long grade! Then his final 400 meter sprint victories at Terre Haute and Kenosha..... Please give the kid his due... he is the complete package despite coming from humble background. He also has great end of season momentum which cannot be discounted. These championship races usually come down to the final mile anyway... and Davis has his hard earned poise and confidence... if he is still "right there" with the leaders.... then watch out for his final 600-400. Ignore him at your peril! Jon Davis is the real deal. -
J.D. no doubt!
Tamagno & Clinger battle for 2nd!
Rainsberger girls side. -
Blaise Ferro has at least as good a shot at winning as Clinger. One spot behind him last year and has really been coming on strong the last couple weeks. If CBA lets him run up front and isn't so concerned about the team like they have been then Ferro can definitely steal it.
-
Then why did Ben petrella run faster run faster than Blaise ferry in the New York race? You saying Blaise is gonna win is like me saying Ben will beat him by 14 seconds again

I would agree. Nothing against the others, they are obviously great runners, but Davis won Illinois (in a time that you don't see often) and then won both Regionals. My hope is that he does his best at NXN and then runs FL also, regardless how NXN turns out.
A double win would be a tall order, but not impossible. I guess we will know the first half by tomorrow night.
