And to the original poster, my point was to gain an understanding of the culture in which you live and see what you're up against. There are millions of sharp, saavy, highly paid people in this country and elsewhere -- all armed with boatloads of research drawn from the worlds of psychology, sociology and marketing -- whose sole purpose is to get you to do one thing: buy more than you need. It's good to know the enemy. And it's good to know the philosophy of the enemy. Furthermore, there is no single "enemy."
