Hello Everyone! First time posting here, but while googling stuff I always seem to end up here and al the answers are always humorous and kind. You guys have probably heard this before, but I am a sophomore in HS in need of help choosing my track event/s. I am 5'5", 15 years old, 140 pounds and a huge track junkie. I've been training for the 800m alone as a sort of conditioning for the past couple months (XC at my school is a joke), mostly using the 'Jack Daniels' Running Formula' book. I've also been hitting the gym pretty hard to avoid injuries down the road. Right now club track season just started where I live. Right now it is mostly just conditioning, but pretty soon we will branch off into Long and Short Sprinters. Here are my times from last year, where I trained exclusively for the 100/200:
100- 11.96
200- 24.63
400- 54.59
LJ- 19'4"
TJ- 38'7" (we didn't have a jumps coach @ the school, so these are from my own flawed internet-learned technique)
Also, my coach says that if I trained for it, by May I could easily be running a 2 minute flat 800.
My big doubt here is, what do I choose? I haven't gotten consistent feedback about which event has the most potential for being a college runner. One worry I have is that my performance at the jumps was only good because of the speed training I had, and if I start training for longer distances I will stop being good at them. However, the 800m is looking like a pretty good option and I'm excited for it, but I don't know if it is compatible with the 400 (Santorena style) or if I have to focus on long distance.
TL;DR
Laste Year: 100- 11.96
200- 24.63
400- 54.59
LJ- 19'4"
TJ- 38'7"
800- Potentially 2:00 with training this year
What do I choose?
