Her life was clearly not under threat and she could easily have killed a bystander.

People who want to get rid of guns and those who want more citizens armed all agree what she did was idiotic. Is there anything to debate?

Yes. We can debate how many idiots are out there to get guns. And how do we prevent idiots such like her from getting one (you mean gun control?)?
we also can debate, in that situation, more guns would be better. Some one(s) with gun(s) would have taken that stupid woman out before she made more shots and wounded/killed some bystanders.
Don't you feel safer?!
Always good to read about a spunky citizen standing up for law and order. To bad she missed the thugs.

Or the bystanders.
The lady was stupid, but I don't feel bad that she shot at the crooks' car. You can't just go stealing merchandise from the Home Depot.
She obviously shot at the car's tires, not at a person. I wish they had been caught. Maybe they'll think before they steal next time.
Say what you want, but my guess is that she knew no bystanders were present and acted as a fit and lucid Greyman in the situation.
The reason she is stupid is that she now has to deal with the fallout, and Home Depot isn't even going to thank her. So she put her butt on the line for a company that will distance themselves from her.
Good for her for standing up for the law, though. She wasn't going to shoot anyone and she knew it. She was shooting the tires of a huge SUV. Id she is CCW, she obviously knows how to use the weapon. She appears to have great aim, too, as she hit the tire. Too bad the cops took an hour to get there.
Maybe if the bystanders and thugs had more guns everybody could have been safer

Ever heard of ricochet?
Home Depot is crawling with Grey Men. I am surprised someone would be so dumb as to try such a blatant theft. Only place with more Gray Men would be a VFW hall, and the act of being at a VFW makes you not a Grey Man.

You are more likely to kill someone backing out of your parking space. She had control of the weapon and used it effectively. She hit her target and is cooperating with authorities.
If anything, the guys in the SUV were the dangerous ones, speeding through a crowded lot to get away with their crime.
You can keep listing hypotheticals all day, but so can I...
1. If she was shooting at the person, it is unethical because you are massively and unilaterally escalating the use of force.
2. If she was shooting at the tires, it is unethical because she is being negligent with the lives of others. This is isn't an action movie. I don't want my life depending on the dubious situational awareness and marksmanship of anyone with a concealed carry permit.
I am a gun owner and believe in the right to carry.
she's going to have to sell her daughter to pimps to pay off the judgement from the Civil Suit.
It is pretty clear that she was not firing at a human. She aimed for the tire and hit the tire.
But of course the criminals speeding through a crowded lot have no responsibility and put no one at risk.
I am sure they had total control over the two-ton piece off speeding metal they were driving around in a chaotic, maniacal situation.
This is why concealed carry permits should be banned. I have family who are in law enforcement. They universally hate concealed carry. It makes their jobs incredibly difficult and dangerous. More and more cops show up at the scene of a call and find multiple people running around with firearms. They spend more time trying to sort out who is a good guy than they do trying to catch the bad guy. Then, you have people discharging firearms in response to petty crime. When they do that, people calling 911 get a "shots fired" response from police. That is one of the highest emergency responses that will draw multiple units. So, you have someone catch some crackhead trying to steal a bike in the alley and they decide to fire a couple of rounds. Next thin you know there are a dozen police officers on the scene, leaving other areas without patrols and with diminished response times.

No doubt that you're more likely to kill someone with your vehicle and that the guys driving the SUV were dangerous. However, the SUV wasn't going to kill someone loading potted plants into their car 50 yards away. She may or may not have hit her target, and they escaped, so I'm not sure how effectively she used her weapon. Based on the video there is also absolutely zero chance that there was nothing behind her target.
I'm not talking hypotheticals. Her bullets did ricochet and she's lucky no people or property were damaged.
I'm not your typical anti-gun liberal. I'm a responsible gun owner. I have three rifles and a handgun. I also have a concealed carry permit in my state, though I've never really carried in public and have no reason to. This woman was not responsible. What she did was stupid and dangerous. There are good reasons for firing your weapon in a public place, but that was not one of them.
Well. You guys are right and I am wrong. So now what?

Yes the criminals have a responsibility for their actions.
They are CRIMINALS. They do crime.
But now the lady is also a criminal because she did something wrong.
You may not feel bad for the criminals. No one does.
But a citizen does not have the right to attempt murder or to destroy property by becoming judge and jury on the spot.

You make good, salient points. I am convinced and have changed my stance on the issue.

Wouldn't it be great if this type of discourse could happen in real life?
BTW - anyone notice the hometown of the shooter? Might be time to play a round or two of 7 degrees of Kip Litton.
