Who's Whoopi? I'm still pining for Paul Lynde.
Who thought Hollywood squares was worth watching when Whoopi was in the center square?

After Paul Lynde left the center square, it was over.

..and I'll go further to say if you can run barefooted then ...RUN BAREFOOTED...
let your own natural stability and support do the work, if you run in those $200.00 shoes that NIKE keeps pushing you will always be proned to injury....Why? Because your feet never learn to stabilizes all by themselves...
BWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

most people on this thread obviously arent serious runners, or they would realise the importance of the trainer vs flats argument. i do pretty high mileage and am very careful abt the amt of miles i run in each pair of trainers, and flats, and rarely if ever wear spikes.
flats definitely make you feel alot better in terms of stride pattern, but i actually also wear chunky sorbothane heal strikes in my heavy trainers, and regularly run upto 160mpw, and keep my flats just for track sessions and paced runs
sure people wore crap trainers in the past , but they also got way more impact injuries than we do now, so there has to be a balance
has anyome run over 200mpw consistently, and raced well and avoided infections? most people will get pretty run down at that level, but the japanese seem to do it alot
Jos Hermans reportedly ran 300km in training before he ran the world record for 1 hour. 13 miles plus.
I understand the difference:
Heavy trainers:
1.create an unatural biomechanics
2.provide false sense of security
3.make one unstabil
4.don't allow sensory feed back
5.provide extra dead weight
6.create a shortening of the achilles
Lower profile shoe (flat):
1.allows a natural biomechanical foot strike
2.reduced weight one carries during running
3.allows more sensory feed back for foot to respond to uneven terrian whether concrete/dirt/grass.
4.allows muscles and tendons to stretch normally
Anyone running 10 to 200miles a week can figure out which types of shoes will perform best for their body base off just some of these differences that I list. I'll leave it up to you to decide.
I know at least 3 guys in college 'in the day' that ran 200+ in a week - one with some regularity - he ran 2:15, another 2:17 and two or three others in low 2:21-2-3(can't remember exactly). We had others running 120+ and into 160-70 range at times. This was before VO2 and 'tempo runs' and periodization were in books, at least running books.
I was able to run 174 mpw followed by a 182 mpw. I experienced some forefoot pain as a result & had to take two days off. I run at slow speeds (6.7-7.0 mph) which makes it much easier & less physically demanding. But running slow makes it like having a part time job. I try to keep my HR below 140 so I'm not worn out after a 3-3/4 hour run. It's a great stress reliever.
What years were these and what shoes do you recall wearing?
I bumped from 80 mpw to 215 for just one week, i did it for a bet, felt back to normal after 3 months.

You bumped a 15 year old thread just to say that? Let it rest in peace.
It worked great for me.
this kind of mileage is outdated, aside from maybe Japan
