I was there. Cam warmed up to do a workout and then he and Galen took off in a car immediately after race.
Thought he was going to stay for it, but many pros goofing around after May not have been great atmosphere.

Ooooh! I think our boy Wigins got a little butthurt!
Didn't he run a sub-par race before his 10k PR? I believe he got beat by Collis Birmingham.
Didn't see the race unfold but I would guess that he purposefully let it be tactical to practice on his speed - and failed.
Meh. Shows that he still won't be a factor in the 5k, but doesn't mean he can't still run well in the 10k.

Sure it does. A 58 last lap isn't scaring anyone in the 10k.
That's so weird, he looked so flat...and to think he ran 3:34.1 last summer. He's gotta be training through this. His indoor 3000 AR of 7:30 is on pace to go through the mile in like 4:01, and he can't run over a second faster here? Gotta be a tough training block, or else he's not gonna be looking good in Beijing.

Slow and tactical. Track very slow and antiquated. Rupp gets beat by some pretty talented 3:53 to 3:55 mile types in a sit and kick. I don't think that's all that unpredictable.
Yep, rupp is not a tactical 1500m guy. Its possible salazar made him do this event, so he just half assd it.
Or it was a PR showing, to give the image of support, but really he was just working out and trying not to pull something before worlds.
never a good sign to run 10 seconds over your pr in a mile race, but it doesn't mean anything clear, because he is training very hard right now for world's--probably not going to start his taper for another ten days or so. Simmonds ran 48.55, I think. On a slow track like this, not so bad for a guy who can't keep up with the leaders on the first lap.
The old Rupp is back. I'm guessing he's not able to use as many Meds as he'd like to. When he was fully medicated, he was closing post race workout repeat miles at this pace.

Rupp was clearly trying to win the race.

5xmile in 4:21, 4:20, 4:20, 4:16, 4:01 after his 8:07 2 mile record
Then this is really bad.

Like Mead?
Um, no. Mead is a 5000 guy, who has never shown Rupp's "famous" speed ranging down to the mile.
And it wasn't a sit and kick. Did you even watch? Rupp is too cowardly and/or too poor of a tactician to get out fast as a distance gut against mile soecialists/kickers. He then tried in desperation to run away with 600 to go but had nothing faster than his 10,000 closing 800.
Disaster of a race. Period.
Folks we are finally seeing what a clean and honest galen is capable of running.

"It was special," Rupp said. "Obviously I still have a little way to go as far as sharpening up. But this was good for me, to drop down and run against some guys with good kicks."
I figured this might happen when I saw him running the 80 meter sprints a few days ago.
Some speculations/possibilities...
1. Maybe Rupp is getting old. He is 29 after all, and just because we're seeing more and more athletes run well in their 30s doesn't mean Rupp should be able to do the same thing. Everyone's bodies are different.
2. He's stopped doping and has dead legs since he's not used to feeling what it's like to run clean.
3. He's still negatively affected by whatever virus he had in the indoor season. Sickness can really mess with the body. Maybe he never really recovered.

Remember, Rupp is not Farah. Rupp has mediocre races in his build-ups. Always has. Why doesn't anyone mention that he beat Torrence? Because Torrence is irrelevant?
NIck Symmonds placed dead last in the 400m. Are Symmonds's fans sticking a fork in him? The 400m is half the distance of the 800m, while the Mile is 1/3 of the 5000m and 1/6th the 10,000m. I would be worried if I was fan of Nick Symmonds.
Spot on!
No. Uninformed post. Symmonds ran 47-point weeks before his OG 1:42 PR. His race yesterday was totally in line with a good 800 peak for him. He didn't even use blocks.
Rupp, on the other hand, a runner whose coach massively emphasizes speed and range, just ran 10 seconds of his mile PR, unable to shake anyone when he tried to lead 800 out. Salazar was talking trash about wanting Rupp to do a fast pre-WC mile "like Mo" so don't pretend a 4:00 DFL was the "plan."

If you didn't watch it then STFU. Your guess is wrong.
He tried to run for the win from 800 out. That 800 was slower than his 10,000 close. Ouch.

No. Did you see his Flotrack race-prep video?
WC 10,000 goes in 13 days.

I think a good question would be, what the heck made Salazar think that Rupp was in that kind of shape? Did he have some great workouts and then just bomb this race?
The days when a 4:00 mile was considered "fast" on the world stage are long gone.
Let me address a few points by Leirbag:
Nick is a huge competitor. So one should discount them at their own peril but I'm certainly not expecting him to do anything at Worlds. He's done nothing since USAs. He overachieved at USAs and regressed since then. The guy is a gamer so he cant be totally discounted but a guy who is going to be a factor at Worlds doesn't rabbit a 600 and then finish last in a 400 in ihs last two races before Worlds.
He beat Torrence by lunging at the line when Torrence let up? What does that have to do with anything. Torrence is having a poor year by his standards, having run just 13:30 and 3:39.
I agree that what a 10,000 guy can do in the mile isn't really relevant. I mean has Geoffrey Kamworor ever run a mile? However, I would be concerned that he lost to Mead.
As for strugglign in his buildup, it really depends on how you look at it. In 2013, Rupp did only run 3:57 for the mile on January 12th (62 last 400) and then did run 3:50 for the mile two weeks later.
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2013/01/galen-rupp-runs-350-92-for-the-mile-to-become-the-fifth-fastest-in-the-mile-ever/But outdoors, he opened with some strong 1500s in May in 2013 and 2012. 3:36 and 3:34.
