anyone know if this is a done deal?
anyone know if this is a done deal?
Ummmmmm.....never heard of "em
Word on the street, his interview went well but others are coming in to interview also. They better decide quickly, as the AU runners were told to report next Wednesday. Anyone know anything on this guy???
that's the basic bio on him from Texas
who else has interviewed
Texas has been such a disappointment in XC. I am not saying just in the last year or two - I mean always. Here's an overall athletic powerhouse - Swimming-awesome, basketball-sweet 16, Baseball-always in it and won this year, Football-usually ranked pretty high and at least has great talent. They usually have had one or two good distance guys, but as a team... they've been fortunate to go to Nats as many times as they have as they've basically made it by default most years (no one else in region). What's up with that?
....and you knew that UT's men are getting to nationals each year in cross with roughly 1.5 scholarships invested in that area (and could definitely be less then that - just a guess - but it sure as hell isn't 3) then you'd do everything in you power to keep that coach on you men's track staff and on your campus. is the region weak? yes, probably the second easiest place to qualify out of. but if you compare the resources they have for men's distance to the other schools in the conference you'd have to conclude that coach vigilante (sp?) has done a great job at UT with his resources.
if you want to start the debate as to who isn't do a good job with the investment in distance runners you can certainly find them in every conference in the country ? just not at UT and sure as hell not on the men?s side.
And the real problem with the Athletic Director's post is that it shows that he/she has no appreciation for the fact that coaches who get a team to NCs in cross, especially on the men's side, and do it with less then 3-4 scholarships are doing a hell of a job - see also Jay Dierkson at Nebraska. or maybe they're just an a*sh*le.
Dude, don't get bent out of shape... hook 'em horns, or whatever.
I can see how you might have taken my post as a rip against Vigilante or UT's runners, but it was more of an authentic question as to why does UT do what it takes in the other sports to consistently be VERY good, but not do so in cross. I am not the insider you are, and I have no clue as to their scholarship situation. So, thanks for the nice explanation that basically boils down to that the reason UT is consistently 31st (or near there) at Nats is because UT could give a rat's ass about XC.
vig is a great coach, and yes word on the street is it is a done deal
what street is that?
UT just got a 13:49 All American (Paul Morrison) and return a strong team of runners (Jeff Wood 3:43/Barra 8:45 steeple, Gould 14:30).
Why would Auburn be better than UT? I would think you could recruit 20 times better in Austin than Auburn, and I would not want to run against Arkansas at every damn conference meet and hope your top dog maybe beats their third or fourth guy...
Perhaps Auburn pays better...
Why would Auburn pay better??? just a question. From what I hear, Vigilante is about to have his first child. That may complicate things.
They also recruited Joe Thorne this year as well as some very good HS distance runners in the state of Texas included Jeff Cutrer (4:13/9:13), John Arnold (1:53/4:14), John Rainbolt (9:03).
who the heck is paul morrison and when did he run 1349
Morrison-
He went ot princeton and has been hurt for the better part of the last 2 years. As a soph he was 8th (i believe) at NCAA XC as for 13:49 he ran that at a Northestern meet in boston 2 maybe 3 years ago. He is surely one of the most talented runners in the NCAA if he could stay healthy. I wish him the best of luck. Anyone know the reason he chose texas?
Has No Doubt who started this post provided any credible sources on this subject? Perhaps Vig or one of his close friends? It seems as this could all be rumor. Does anyone agree? The Texas men's team has come a long way since he arrived and maybe that is why Morrison chose UT. They have great sports medicine also.
I think it is all just a rumor, to get people stirred up a little.
I'm hoping that it is just a rumor, he is a great coach and is doing a great job with that program.
I talked with someone who goes to Auburn and they did say Coacg Vig interviewed for the job. Don't know if he got it or not though.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
