It's clear to me that you are being too vague. If you said 2:55:32.12 they would probably be more impressed. I think when you put the x's in it makes you seem like you are hiding something. Do you drive a big truck?

Women love athletes and will easily appreciate a 2:50 something marathon (especially in big Western cities where many young women 'jog' half that distance in about the same time). There must be a problem with your delivery if they are failing to be impressed. Don't forget that to most women, their idea of an athlete is different than a focus on posting above average times. You have to exude the ultra confidence (without crossing the line to douche territory as in self-declarations of your athleticism), the charm, and the convincing tone in your voice that confirms in their minds that you have the alpha qualities of a sportsman.
In my office alone, all the young ladies know me as an athlete even though, truth be told, I am a pretty slow runner--18 min 5km. They all say stuff like "wow, you're fast" and when they introduce me to their friends they say "he's a professional runner". I mean, nothing could be further from the truth, but because I exuded that charm and confidence, they've totally bought into me. That's what you need to strive for. Otherwise, you'll always just be that skinny nerd Forrest Gump type--a moderately interesting character from a gawking standpoint but not an athlete to be praised and given the attention you rightfully deserve.
Mods, please delete this thread. I was trolling, but I grew bored with it almost as soon as I created it. Pretty major misstep on my part. Sorry.
What did you think was going to happen?
T MAKH IS PROUD LION AND HAS WOMEN FLOCKING TO HIM. T MAKH WILL WIN WORLDS!
2:50 means you're training hard enough to draw attention and energy away from your career, but you aren't talented enough to earn any money at running. A running bum is still a bum.

I am a 2:40something marathoner. I dated a...woman...When I asked her at the end of the date if she wanted to maybe go for a run sometime, she said, "I'll let you know."
A couple months later I still haven't heard anything back from her.
You should not describe going on a single date as "dating" someone or that you "dated" them. It is misleading.
I think they would be more impressed by a 4 hour or 5 hour marathon. Afterall, running 5 hours is harder than running under 3 hours!
Any marathon time at all sounds more impressive to a non-runner than a 14 min 5k or 4 minute mile, because they relate difficulty to distance.
Who cares how fast you can run a marathon if you struggle to open a jar of jam (not jam-in)?

That wasn't me! I really am a 2:5x.xx marathoner. Following some advice I think I am going to tell ladies the minutes and seconds part. We have a happy hour thing tonight. I'll report back tomorrow about how it goes.
P.S. For those idiots that think I'm a 2:59er I'll point out that it was a hilly course and a hot day to boot, and I *still* ran 2:56:xx.xx

Yeah, that is *still* not impressive. Go away ya jogger.

Now this just won't do, my friend. I just finished explaining that these women couldn't care less, and now you've gone and declared that indeed they could.
Public service announcement: the correct syntax is "couldn't care less." After all, if you actually could care less, this would imply you care at least little bit now, which isn't nearly as impactful.
Please, the next time you write... think of the children. And the animals. (cue Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" here)
Omg... This. When I was younger I always wondered why people said "could care less" because doesn't that mean you care? Sorry to branch out on the randomness part of the thread, but this made me laugh!
Just have a laugh over the part where you were taking water, and you accidentally dropped one of the 25-lb dumbells you were carrying. Or that you lost a few minutes rescuing kittens from a nearby burning building, but that you got the minutes back from adrenaline sprinting away when the building collapsed.
To say that you have trained for and completed a marathon would impress the majority of non-runners. BUT only if it was a one-off " its just something I really wanted to do" sort of thing. The time would be irrelevant.
However if you were to say you have competed in several marathons but wasn't even close to winning any of them just about any non-runner would see you as a complete and utter f****wit!

I would be more impressed with that too. There are probably more 2:5x.xx marathoners than people that have scored 3 tds in a high school game - at least at a large school in a competitive league.
Huh, I pick up women all the time when I tell them I ran a 3:35 marathon, but then again I am driving in my 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari when I tell them this.
Women are not impressed with times or athletic performance unless it generates status and lots of spending cash. They have no idea about times. Like in Japan if you tell a girl you can run 2.05 for 800m she will laugh and reply" 800m hahahahaha thats not far I ran the marathon in 5 hours. Hahahahaha". They are completely ignorant so your times need to come with other signs thats they are special. Status, prestige, cash, nice cars and stuff. 2.50 is a good time but will not earn you the status and prestige women want. Just the respect of the running community. As well some might know there is talk of the marathon going under 2 hours. Bahahaha. They might also know some women can run 2.20. Mmmm Maybe the less they know the better.
